Carol, just read your post, as a former vendor I could write a book on all the stories I had heard / encounters during my tenure as a vendor from these home warranty companies. A couple of years ago, I had a no heat service call in la jolla, which was a minor repair, yet the "original" vendor ( same company did appliances under one name, and HVAC under another name, yet used same tech for both service calls) told her that she needed a new furnace and of course would not be covered under the limits of liability. the client asked me if I knew anything about ovens, and I told her I dont specialize in them as I was not an appliance tech, however as my parents owned several rentals, it was up to me to do those repairs, allegedly the bottom electric element was out, and due to age the part was not available, however the appliance company said that they could install a new oven, but would have to modify the kitchen cabinets to make the new one blend into the kitchen, dont recall how much but the price was shall we say " up there" as a favor, I pulled the element, found voltage present, and the element itself was electrically "open" ( like when you shut off a light switch) anyway I made a phone call to one of the suppliers I use, and when they came back to me after being on hold, they said that the part was still active, and while they did not have one, one of the other branches did and could have it to me within 24 hours.

I had them out to fix MY dishwasher and they sent two knuckleheads out (complete with "Easy Does It" and "One Day At A Time" bumper stickers)who used a flashlight to "inspect" the dishwasher. The solution? Water "wasn't hot enough". Said the "inspectors": "It should almost burn me as it comes out of the faucet". $45.00 gone. ANOTHER time, I had a ceiling fan that crapped out. It was a beautiful fan (and expensive!) which was brown with four globe lights on it, and had a remote. They replaced it with a white $29.00 fan, no lights, almost identical to the one that was sold at Wal-Mart. No remote. $45.00 gone. So I complained, and they had some guy shove a wireless remote into the ceiling so that I had a remote. Then it wouldn't fit, and NO-ONE came to fix it, even after repeated calls. $45.00 billed. I called and refused to pay, and not only that, canceled my account immediately. I guess your stuff has to be REALLY broken. So if you have a policy, don't waste the $45.00. Make sure yourself that it is indeed broken beyond repair. If not, do what it takes without making obvious damage obvious. What happened to you, Carole, is a shame. $200.00 could have bought you a cheap dishwasher. Instead, you got nothing. I was miffed at $45.00. American Home Sheld IS a ripoff!
