Being a consumer i know the difficulties of dealing with insurance. The unfortunate part is that 90% of us do not read our policies nor read what they send us. Each state requires mailings of policy changes to be delivered within so maany days to the inusrd. I have dealt with Amercan Modern and know that if your status changes from policy inception you must inform your agent/carrier at the time. You may not have had any dogs when you started the policy but, sounds like you added some later. You need to let them know so they can go over the restricted breeds which all carriers have. You cannot expect guard dogs to be allowed which these sound like since you had break ins. Then to the house, if you cannot fix your siding then you need to have someone fix it. I have delat with this issue myself and know that they consider pride of owenership as a factor if you are insurable. remember that it could have been a coicidence that the siding fell when they were there, but thats why they inspect, so they can discover what the condition of the home is like.
Also if you bought a policy with Actual Cash Value Settlement then you will not get depreciation back, you need replacement cost.
Sadly too many point the finger and blame a great company because they didn't due their part. I personally had a claim with American Modern and they were fantastic and very willing to help but, i had to do my part as well.
