Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I purchased 2 pair of eyeglasses at this store in August of 2001. I was pushed into buying frames that I really did not want because they were the "closest things" to what I wanted that were "on special" for $49.95 for 2 pairs. Once they rushed through the eye exam (it took 45 minutes to be seen but only 3 to evaluate my eyes), they made me wait again... in another room for almost another 30 minutes. I was then informed that I must have the "ultra light" lenses (Extra Charge) and a special coating... another "extra"... and they attempted to get me to buy a "hyped" plan to cover the glasses. I refused. The sales girl was so "annoyed" that she asked me to wait a moment & then made me stand there for 20 minutes while she "reviewed" my bill. She kept pushing the PLAN. I kept declining. As I left the store, I felt stressed by the whole experience. When I returned to pick up my glasses, only one pair was there. They proceeded to tell me that my lenses had been lost & needed to be reordered. (I live an hour from the store). I left with my one pair of plain glasses & waited for my sunglasses to be received by the store. During this the store moved down the street. No notice was given to me when I called & you can imagine my feeling when I discovered it. I managed to read a scribbled note taped to the outside of the door (the note was faded) that said they moved a few blocks away. I arrived at their office & proceeded to try on my sunglasses. To my dismay... the prescription was WAY off! Luckily I had my regular glasses & they compared them. They apologized & stated that they would have to reorder them AGAIN! On the 3rd trip to their store I ultimately received the correct glasses, but as I got into my car the lens popped out! (This is just by sitting down). I hadnt hit anything or put them under undue force so there was no reason for them to fall out. I walked back in & the girl proceeded to put the glasses in some mini beads then pop my lens back in. She stated the beads hold the lens tight. Well, it is 9 months later & I drop my glasses on the floor at a local department store. The frames cracked & a lens popped out. I called the same America's Best location to ask about just a frame for these glasses to find that now they cost more that BOTH of my glasses combined. The sales girl then informs me that they have a special for 2 pair for $79.95 ($30 more than the base amount of my 1st 2 pairs.) I declined & requested that they fax me my prescription. They NEVER did. I hope they go out of business & I will do everthing I legally can to let others know how I was treated! I would never buy from them again, I would do without first.

I worked at America's BEST Contact's and Eyeglasses for over 3 years. I went through their informative training classes that give you useful knowledge and help you place the customers in the best products for their prescription. I've never been told to rush the customers and sell them things they don't need by anyone of my managers. They trained me to be nice and respectful to every customer and to never make them wait. Sometimes we did get short handed if someone was sick or if an employee went on vacation, but no matter what, the customers were helped in a timley manner. If a customer wasn't satisfied we did everything we could to make them smile and refer us to all of their friends and family. I loved working at America's Best and helping all of the wonderful customers.

I worked for America's Best (Worst) Contacts and Eyeglasses in Joplin, Mo. I started as receptionist, but when they discovered how all the customers made nice comments about me they moved me to eyeglass sales. I was sent to special calsses. On what? Good customer service? Of course not. On how to sell these frames and lenses and push packages. Now being pushy is not my way. The frames for the 2 pair special were awful. No one wanted these frames, and that was the point. One pair was hot pink with black polka dots! ABC&E said to insist that the customers could not live without a package for 35.00 per pair of glasses. This gave the frames and lenses a ONE TIME replacement. I learned that the frames purchaced by ABC&E are DISCONTINUED frames that they get for less than a penny per pair. A PENNY. And they are so cheap that the lenses fall out and they break easily. I was told that if a customer refused the package with the replacement that even if the glasses broke the next day, they had to buy a brand new pair. Would this be half the price, since it was only for one and not two. Of course not. They still had to pay the price for TWO pair. I was told to RUSH the customers out of the store. You spend too much time talking to the customer and being too nice to them the manager told me. Don't be so nice. If they say no to something insist they NEED it, and if they still say no, hurry them out of the store. There are other customers to get to that you can talk into spending lots of money! I am not a rude person and i would not want someone to be that way with me when I'm getting ready to spend my hard earned money at their business. I live by this rule. I have never heard the phrase "I fell like I'm being hearded in and out of here like cattle." Of course I quit after one too many scoldings about being "too nice" and "spending too much time" with customers. I was "too honest" the manager said. I would not want someone selling me something I do not need, and I WILL NOT sell something to someone that they do not need. I have found that the employees at ABC&E are trained to be rude, pushy, sell you something you do not need, push packages, get as many customers in for eye exams in one day, and try to get you to spend the most money that they can get out of you. When I quit America's, I had several loyal customers follow me to my next job in Optical at Wal-Mart Optical. I would like to tell everyone that you DO NOT get an accurate eye exam in 3-5 minutes. If this is the case then you are not getting the right prescription. If something sound too good to be true, it probably is. Please do not waste your time with America's. If you go because you do not have a lot of money like most people who go there, save a little more to go somewhere else. The only good place for America's glasses are in the trash!
