When you make an online reservation, there is not way to cancel it online and you will not get a confirmation of the cancellation. They make you call an agent, and the agent does not cancel the reservation. They just say they are cancelling it, then you end up paying for the ticket and you have no proof that you cancelled it. The Amtrak employees just lie and keep the money.

In the past 5 years, they have done this to me to the tune of $1200. So I finally learned my lesson - no more reservations at all whatsoever on Amtrak. I'd rather drive a 1998 Toyota crosscountry than ever set foot on an Amtrak.

And if you decide to take that Amtrak trip, trust me, you'll join the majority of people who avoid it like the plague. Just look at how many blog sites start off with Amtrak Sucks. And the employees lie about the ticket prices.
