AOL sure got me good. I had signed up for them and was fairly happy with them. Then I decided to go with a different company because they were offering a good deal on DSL. So I downgraded my account to the unlimited access with a different ISP in January. I think it was the 10th of March, I decided to drop AOL so I called them up and I thought everything was cool, until I checked my checking account balance on the 27th of March and noted that aol had taken $232.00 out of my account. I called them up and they told me that I had signed up for their 5 hour plan. Which I know for a fact that I did not! Of course not knowing I only had 5 hours, I went way over that. They did offer to pay me $116.00 back since it was obvious that "I" had made a mistake. Also they had no record of me cancelling my service. I'm glad I noticed the money missing out of my account before any checks had bounced. They also told me that I changed my billing plan again the 19th of March to their 1 hour plan. Why would I have done that when I had cancelled the account? I am so frustrated and feel extremely victimized. I will never deal with that company ever again!!!!

#2Consumer Suggestion

Sun, March 31, 2002

As I read the continuing Rip Off Reports about AOL, my internal rage continues to grow. This past week, I received an email from the President of Netscape, trying to sell AOL to me. Here was my response, directly to him at his email address of: [email protected]. Maybe a massive mailing by the public to Mr Bankoff would have some effect, but, I really doubt it. They are all CROOKS!!! Dear Mr. Bankoff, Normally, I would be interested in trying out AOL, but because of the significant number of reports I have read on Consumer Forums concerning over billing, not honoring cancellation instructions and other kinds of customer abuse, I don't feel confident that if I tried AOL and wasn't satisfied with the service I received, I would have an uneventful service termination. Please provide some level of assurance that you have corrected your seemingly poor business practices and tell my why I should abandon Earthlink, who has provided exceptional customer service, connectivity and an excellent value at $17.95 for unlimited internet service with a reliable connection of more than 50kB/sec. If you cannot give me that assurance, please remove my name from your mailing and email list.
