This is in response to other aol ripoff reports.

AOL had my checkcard number because I signed up for a free trial using one of their cd's that you get in the mail. It was supposed to be a free trial up until a specific date. They withdrew $55.00 from my checking acct. before my free trial was up.

I forgot to mention they also took out $28.00 also before the $55.00. I received advice from some people to terminate my free trial with AOL, end my checking acct., and open up a new checking acct. so that AOL could not make any more debits to my account. I did just that and opened up a new account with my bank.

Watch out for encoding errors though. While First Union was switching my money over to a new account they accidentally took $33.00 from my old account. I caught this with online banking and called in and First Union gave me my money back telling me it was an encoding error. meanwhile, I called AOL to get a refund on the $55.00 and they gave me a numerous amount of phone numbers to call and departments to reach.

I finally got my $55 refunded back to my old account(this is before I terminated my checking acct.). I did not bother with the $28 that AOL took from me because I was dumb at the time.

My message to everyone: Do not participate in free trials of any kind, do not sign up for anything even though it is free, do not give out your checkcard number unless yuo are making a purchase right then and there, terminate your checkign acct. if a company seems sly like AOL. SOrry for the mispelled words--typing fast.
