Sue, I too am at the end of my rope dealing with Aspire. I'm now learning that they have closed ALL credit card accounts and are no longer in the credit card business. However, I finally got to speak to a english speaking customer service/collections person this morning 2/19/10 and was told that they are starting collections from "scratch". I asked her what did that mean? Sue informed me that Columbus Bank & Trust no longer issues credit card and no longer handles billing/collections etc. so the records that they have are NOT complete. They dont know WHO owes what and therefore they are relying on the previous credit card holders to let them know if and when their credit accounts were paid off and provide documentation of all payments.
It sounds strange and very suspect to me and I told her that I was filing a complaint with the BBB in addition to filing a complaint with the FTC immediately. They sent me a statement saying that I owe them $1375.00 and also added a $39.00 late fee. I paid this card off nearly 3 years ago. I'm going to also dispute them on my credit reports and have decided to not give them another cent.
This is the WORST company I've ever dealt with and their business practices are beyond unethical. I wonder why the Federal Government and/or the Credit Bureaus have not gotten involved with the 1000's of complaints being filed against Aspire. You would think that the credit bureau or the powers that be would realize that all the consumers who have complained about being ripped off would take some kind of action and not allow them to report this bogus information on our credit reports.
I too am so done with Aspire! If anyone, anywhere has any information on filing a class action lawsuit than please let me know and definitely count me in. If anyone knows how to begin the process of gathering the data or what's all in involved please post that information as I promise to get involved. Enough is enough!
