Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
Went to a one hour seminar for this, the guy from Weston used a really good sales pitch basically. They tell you they are approved by AHDI and they aren't. I've emailed and spoken to AHDI and they are not an approved school they paid to be a memeber of AHDI and refuse to let AHDI review them to approve them as an accredited school. Second I work for a certified testing center and I know for a fact you have to take the RMT or CMT test at this center. They tell you that once you pay almost 3 grand and take this 5 month 5 course studies you will receive a diploma and you can get a job. That is false. You won't receive a job through anyone. I have 44 pages of companies that state they test you themselves and if you aren't in the high grade passing percent you aren't going to get hired plus they want after schooling intern experience and ahdi approved school students. Also, I called their support 800 number and asked them how soon they schedule the RMT or CMT at a certified test center, Corby, the man I spoke to, stated that Weston/At Home doesn't schedule your testing for you. I know for a fact that you have to go through the schools to get a test to be certified or enrolled etc. This Corby person stated that you have to set up this test on your own and then you can certify for the RMT/CMT and all they send you is a certificate of completion. No diploma, nothing to say you can now find a job, and I highly doubt if you don't find a job that they will pay you back your 3000 you paid them. It's smart to just find an approved school through AHDI or a community college locally to take the Medical Transcription courses. It may take longer to finish but it cost half as much and you will have an actual DIPLOMA or AAS or whatever for it. Also, I found a few people who went through Career Step (AHDI approved school) and had a job within 2 weeks after graduation and certifying.

Yes one of the boards has to schedule the appointment, You cannot and will not be able to just call Prometric and schedule the RMT/CMT test. Plus there are no employers that hire with just a completion certificate they all want experience and I don't care what you have to say, it's false. Yeah you're legit to say you can teach people theses skills in 5 months but for half the price and 6 more months so can alot of other places! Someone I know works for a certified testing center, I KNOW THE RULES! And you should tell your seminar employees to not say they are approved by AHDI when you aren't!

Clearing Up the Confusion

We are glad to have the opportunity to respond to this post. Unfortunately, there seems to be quite a bit of confusion throughout this post. At-Home Professions is an educational member of AHDI. As such, AHDI allows the use of their Education Member logo. An educational member is not necessarily an AHDI accredited school. The definition of educational member can be found on AHDIs website at the following link: http://www.ahdionline.org/MemberCenter/JoinAHDI/CategoriesandBenefits/tabid/221/Default.aspx. Please review the back page of the brochure you received at the seminar for the logo described above.

At this point in time, AHDI is not even accepting new accreditation self-study applications. Per AHDIs website at 5:22 pm on August 23, 2012: As of March 2012, the AHDI Education Approval Program has been temporarily suspended as AHDI works on streamlining policies and procedures. The list of currently approved schools will remain online during this time. We anticipate reinstating the program later this year. New self-study application submission dates will be announced when the program is reinstated (source: http://www.ahdionline.org/Careers/NewMTTraining/AboutEducationProgramApproval/tabid/210/Default.aspx). AHP is accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council. The Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency for distance education.

Corby provided accurate information about the certification exams. AHDIs RMT/CMT exams do not need to be scheduled by the school. A quick check on AHDIs webpage shows what a transcriptionist needs to do to take the licensing exam: http://www.ahdionline.org/Certification/SignUpforanExam/tabid/531/Default.aspx

AHP does not offer job placement or imply it offers job placement. The schools brochures and scripts are carefully reviewed regularly to ensure its materials are accurate and do not use terms such as job placement. The school offers graduate counseling.  Please refer to the FAQ page of the brochure handed out at the seminar or the page titled How We Assist Our Graduates. An excerpt from that page says, If you need assistance, call our toll-free Graduate Help Line. A Graduate Counselor will be happy to work with you, reviewing the Career Starter kit procedures, your marketing materials and interviewing techniques DVD. We want you to be successful and will motivate and encourage you in your job search! AHP cannot respond to the comment about 44 pages of companies without a source.
