AT&T High Speed internet: NOT!

I have had their service since March 2002. Things were great until late July, when I could not keep a connection for more than five minutes at a time and would be down for hours at a time. When I could get on, I may as well have had dial-up, as the connection was slow. August was even worse. Technician #1 came on a Sunday morning and seemed annoyed that he was working.

He said "it's a line problem, someone will follow up." No one did. Technician #2 said "you don't have enough memory to operate the modem" Hello, it is an EXTERNAL modem. Technician #3, a lead tech was the only one who seemed to know what he was doing. After having to "rebuild" my account, I was back up and running in early September. Oh, all of the "credits" I was getting? never happened.

All was well until mid-January, when I started crashing on a daily basis, first for 1-2 hours at a time, then hours on end. When I finally got a connection, it was lost within 20 minutes. I was told that "they are doing maintenance in the area", then I was told "there are no outtages in your area". I am still experiencing the same thing, and now instead of having to wait 4 hours for a tech, I will now have to wait 6-8 hours.

On to DSL.

To fix this problem there are a few things you can do first the ip for the modems GUI is 192.168.100.1 (rca, Motorolla & others) & 192.168.100.1/moreInfo.html(need to cap the I) for older RCA modems or check your users guide if this does not work. Once there look under Signal or diag. tab there are three things you need to look at, the signal to noise ratio, & up & down power level's. The SNR should be in the lower 30dB range the down stream power level should be no lower than -15dBmv & the upstream power level should be in the 40's around 45dB is perfect. If any are off this will cause a loss of comms or your modem will lose connection. There is a easy fix to this which is a signal adjustment to the modem. Also thre are other reasons for a crap connection virus, trojan.
