I had applied for a position that I found in craigslistasheville (http://asheville.craigslist.org/csr/926887121.html) Asheville Account Executive Payroll Services.
Subsequently I received the following email:
Thank you for having interest and taking the time to reply to our job opening here at Auth Media. We are pleased to tell you that you have been selected into the final screening process
This job will be a rewarding and profitable career choice and we offer our employees the best salary and health packages available. We believe a happy worker is the key to a growth oriented company.
As part of our routine background check on all employees we require all applicants who have reached this stage to do a routine credit check to verify your details.
This check is totally free to you and all details are totally confidential. Please note: We can not and will not use any bad credit to deny your application (your credit is not important to us), this is simply to
verify your employment history and Social Security number.

As it turns out. There is no Auth Media; at least not that I can find. After getting my credit report, I had a non-delivery message for the [email protected] email address.
All that they want to do is to drive business to their credit report service. (((Redacted)))This in turn is used to sign people up for a savings/discount program (((Redacted)))
It is possible to cancel these memberships and services. They seem to make their money from people who are too busy to notice the "this membership will incur monthly charges, unless cancelled by you" notice.
