If you are using Microsoft original software they have a free product called Microsoft Security Essentials that downloads in just a few seconds and does a great job. You would need to uninstall the Avast before doing so.

Hi ladyprettyman,
It sounds like you were in contact with someone at Iyogi, which provides tech support for Avast security software products. Unfortunately, I have seen a sizable number of complaints about Iyogi...and some are right here on the ROR site.
How long have you had Avast on your computer? Given the problems you are having, I would recommend you first visit the Avast Forums. There are many very knowledgeable members there who have provided me with invaluable help whenever I've experienced any issues with Avast.
You might want to consider posting a topic there about the problem you are having.
The help you can receive there doesn't cost anything either!
(I use the FREE version of Avast antivirus). From your problem description, it sounds like you could have a corrupted file in the Avast software. Have you tried uninstalling the Avast (using the removal tool found on their website), then re-installing it?
Hope this helps a little.
