Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
Axia College Financial Aid office harasses students. I have been harassed by phone and by e-mail by my counselor about submitting verification for my aid. Like the last time I applied I was "randomly" selected to submit my taxes yet again. When I asked why I had to again I was told it was because if you were selected the first time you would most likely reselected just because (tell me how is that "random"?) because why I don't know and could not be told a reason.

So it took time to get a copy of my taxes because I did them online and they were not available at that time. When I did get them I had to fax them numerous times because they were never received (big surprise). The same thing happened last time and I had to use several different fax machines just to get it in. I don't even know if/when I will be able to start my next block of classes because they have not received my taxes. I am tired of faxing it so many times, maybe they need a new machine or another number to offset the amount of faxes they get so all of them come through. The fax machines I have at work send you a "send failed" page if it did not go through, and not once did I ever get one so I know it went through ok. It's not my fault if they don't get it.

That is not my only beef with this school, the counselors and instructors are another issue. They just can't seem to keep counselors, either they transfer or quit. I lost count of how many times my counselors were changed just this last block of classes; in fact I don't even know who my academic counselor is because I never heard from him/her.

As for the instructors, some of them should not be teaching. My first block I had so much trouble with one of my instructors that I had to call my counselor on a DAILY basis because I got no where with him. I e-mailed my instructor many times and was asked by my counselor to cc her with what I wrote and forward anything he sent me so I could file a complaint. This went on for most of my class but never got any better, thank goodness the classes are only 9 weeks and not longer I couldn't take any more than that with this instructor.

Also there is a huge inconsistency with assignment submission. My first block it did not matter how late your assignment was there were no points deducted for it being late, assignments that were more than 4 days late were even accepted. This is against Axia policy which dictates that there will be a 10% deduction in points for each day an assignment was late and no assignments are to be accepted after 4 days. The next block assignments that were late did not have deductions either. My third block is when points started to be deducted, with the exception being that if it was submitted shortly after midnight that it would be ok but any later than that and points were taken off. This last bock if the assignment was submitted any time after midnight no matter how much after it was late. The only exception has been the final project/test that has to be in by midnight Arizona time no matter where you live at least they are consistant somewhere right?

At first I was excited about attending school here because it meant that I did not have to go to a physical classroom which would give me more time with my family. Now I am not too sure about the whole thing, and the only reason I am going on is because I am almost done and it would be a waste to quit now.

I have received an e-mail from my financial counselor stating that my file had been sent to collections in February because she did not receive my fax. While her e-mail before said it would not happen until the end of my class. I caught her in this lie and told her so. She did apologize but told me I was right it was not sent in February but in March. And that since my class ended on the 6th and she did not get my fax until the 10th that it was sent then for that reason. I told her to check again because my class ended on the 12th not the 6th. She did not process the papers because she did not pay attention to the dates of my classes. She has lied to me too many times and now I am suppose to pay because she doesn't pay attention? How is that fair or right? It's not and I should not have to pay for her incompetence.

G., If you would like to speak to me directly, my ext. is 39561. I will work with you as a point of contact to help resolve your mess if you like. I am also getting the name and specific address for Academic Affairs for you and I am going to learn who you can lodge your complaint about the faxing with. Again, I have read what you posted and hoped that some of the info would show you who to deal with without using the channels that have not worked for you to date.

Brian did you even read my complaint? Maybe I need to explain it the way I would have to explain it to a child. I said that I had talked to my counselor on a DAILY basis about my problematic instructor, but obviously nothing was done since nothing changed (my counselor was awsome and really tried hard to resolve the problem, but we were not able to, too bad she is gone I could use her right now). At least I can say that I have not had that problem with an instructor again. As for my current academic counselor? I have no clue who that is because I haven't heard from him/her so it's hard to speak to their supervisor isn't it? And as of I believe the end of my last block I do not have an enrolment counselor, that person is no longer working there and I was told I would not be assigned to a new one. You said "Next, how to resolve troubles with your paperwork submission." what does that have to do with assignment submission (that is the "submissions" I was talking about)? The problem I had with paperwork submission is that my faxes were not received even though on my end the fax went through ok. Also what does having any catalog have to do with the fact that my faxes are not received? Do the catalogs get my paperwork? Get real. Something needs to be done about that so people like me don't have to fax in their taxes numerous times and suffer through harassing phone and e-mail messages. You know last time I checked, harassment was against the law. So I guess you can say, no my problem is still not resolved.

Verification Clarifications and how to handle your Counselors

"Angry Student", I have a couple of tips for you to understand Verification and how to make sure you get it sorted w/o the complications you have had. Also, I will let you know how to sort the Counselor limbo. First, this is how to understand Verification. Verification is a process where the US Department of Education flags student FAFSAs on a random basis for review by ANY FA OFFICE. That is, if you are selected by the US Dept. of Ed. to go through Verification, a school FA office must have the tax documentation to compare the FAFSA to. Sometimes changes get made on the FAFSA because there were inconsistencies from your tax documents and your FAFSA. IF you were selected for Verification with WIU, then you would have been selected for any other school as well. This information can be clearly found on your FAFSA Student Aid Report before you get notification from your school (go to: www.fafsa.ed.gov and go to "View and Print your Student Aid Report". This selection information will be found in the Comments section of your SAR). There is nothing that will guarantee or prevent a student gets selected for Verification. I was an Undergrad in Texas public Universities (yes, a few...) for 10 years. Of that time, I was selected for verification three times: two years back-to-back and then the last year of my Undergraduate studies in 2004 with a gap of two years from my last selection. Next, how to resolve troubles with your paperwork submission. Do you have a copy of your Student Catalog? Do you have a copy of your Financial Options Guide? If not, try to get a copy. Your catalog is available on your student website and you should be able to get a copy of your Financial Options Guide from the Financial Aid Web for the University. If you are unable to get these, please call the general number, 800-822-1319 and ask to be connected to your Enrollment Counselor. If they are unavailable, ask to speak to their Supervisor. I recommend that all of my students submit paperwork to me first so I can guarantee delivery and track processing. This is above my current role, but I know from my Undergrad years how difficult t can be to get things done if you do not get help from the correct people. Last, your professor issues. If you have had problems with having contact with your Academic Counselor, then call in and speak to their Supervisor and ask that the Supervisor work with you until your AC limbo is fixed. Also, if there have been policy violations on turning in your work, this Supervisor needs to be aware so Faculty services can take care of that instructor. If the poor behavior continues you MUST follow up. I know that I never liked having poor instructors as an Undergrad or as a Graduate student now. I learned to speak up. Do not fear it. Follow through because YOU are paying that instructor good money to get an education. As for the final submission time of Midnight AZ, that is fast deadlines because of the servers which your classes are hosted on have a cutoff for access at that time at the end of your courses. I hope this helps you. If it does not, please post here and I will see what I can do to help you.
