I have a 2010 Toyota Tundra that sustained hail damage on 4/10/2011. Progressive Insurance issued me a check for repairs to both me and the leinholder (BB&T) in the amount of $1908.01. When I contacted BB&T on how to process the check to get the repairs done, I was told by Lawanda to send the check along with all claim info and a coverletter to the Charleston, West Virginia location. After I did this, I received a call back from Brenda Goode, who told me that she will not reissue a check to me, but will apply the check to the principal on the loan. As I was current on my loan and needed my repairs done, I explicitly told her that she did not have permission to do this, as the check was for repairs, not for BB&T to pocket early payments on my loan. I then contacted Progressive who told me they would immediately stop payment on the check and reissue a check to the repair shop. They did, and my repairs were handled beautifully. However, I learned several weeks later that BB&T tried to run the first check as well and apply it to the principal. When I called Brenda at BB&T, she said it was her "right" to apply it to my principal. She said she was concerned I was looking to receive the cash myself and not fix the repairs (which ironically is exactly what BB&T tried doing). I am not sure why she said this as I never asked for a check to be issued in  my name, and I also provided Brenda with repair shop estimate for where I needed the new check issued to.

However, BB&T ran the check against my wishes (and that of Progressive) and saw the stop payment, and they also charged my BB&T account $25 return payment fee. I contact both BB&T as well as Progressive regarding this. Progressive said they had documentation that they spoke to Brenda at BB&T and also told her they issued a stop payment. Progressive confirmed to me that I had not endorsed the check, and I assured them I had not. So BB&T tried to run a check that they knew was no longer good, for a reason to put early money in their pocket, with no regard for fixing my new truck, and it cost me $25.

Brenda at BB&T keeps telling me what Progressive did (by reissuing a check) was "wrong", yet she thought she could cash in on my hail damage. She assured me that BB&T has a "very strong" relationship with Progressive. However, Al at Progressive stated the contrary, and is obviously concerned that BB&T tried to take money issued for repairs and apply several months in advance for the loan. Progressive is currently trying to help me get my $25 back, which in my opinion is above the call of duty, but hey, a $25 charge from a backwoods, po-dunk bank where I have always been in goodstanding with is absurd.
