on 12/21/08 I went to bestbuy.com and was interested in purhcasing a KitchenAid Mixer Pro for My Husband for Christmas. He has wanted one for a long time and since he is a chef I thought it would be the perfect gift.

I purchased the machine for $247.81 and set up an in store pick up at the west charleston location. I picked up the machine the same day brought it home and wrapped it up.

on 12/24 Christmas eve I gave the mixer to my hubby early beacuse he was preping for our big dinner that evening and wanted him to break it in. When we opened it we found the mixer was damaged. the front attachment area was bent and dented. and when we plugged it in it would not even turn on. Now I thought it was odd because there was no damage to the box what so ever. So I repackaged the mixer and drove to the store.

When I got there I stood in line for over 25 min, finally when I got to the counter and young kid with an atitude asked me what I wanted, I explained to him the problem with the mixer and told him I would like to just exchange it for a new one, He took my receipt and then said so sorry but we cant exchange this item because you bought it online. I expalined to him that I may have paid for it online but I picked it up here and it came from your store broken so I would like a new one in exchange. He told me well it is our policy and we cant exchange it.

At this point I began to cry because it was Christmas eve and now I would have no gift for my husband. I tried to explain this to the kid but he didnt want to hear it. He told me my only option was to return the item and they would refund my best buy card and then I would have to buy another in the store. so he walked away and went to issue the refund. when he came back he said that there was a probelm with my card it was being declined for the new purhcase, I asked him why and he said well the refund can take 24-48 hours and if you dont have a big limt on the card then you wont have enough to re-purhcase a new mixer. He then made the suggestion that he would try to get me a credit line increase and would call the bank, at that point he walked away to use the phone.

I was in tears I didnt know what to do, I still couldnt understand why they would not just exchange the mixer, it made no sense. I stood there for another 20 min while he was on the phone when another clerk came back to me with my receipt and card and told me that he was still working on that increase and she walked away.

At this point I asked another clerk to see a manager. The manager that came up to me was rude from the word go her name was Debie. "Are your the one who wanted to see a manager"? she asked. I said yes and began to explain the problem telling her again that all i wanted to do was exhange the broken on for a new one and why i couldnt understand why i need to get a credit line increase for an exchange. at which point she interupted me shouting "he is not getting you an increase he is trying to get the bank to release the refund!" I told her that is not what I was just told by your clerk. And she then shouted back "well I dont care what she told you, I am telling you, and further more you have been nothing but rude to me and my staff since you came in here, and if you dont stop I will have you removed by the police!"

I was crying uncontrolably, I said call the cops on me! go ahead and then I will call a lawyer! I have been standing here crying this whole time but I was rude yeah ok it is your attitude that sucked, you were rude from the minute you got here, nice christmas sprit you have! She then shouted at me in front of a line of customers "WELL MAYBE IF YOU HAD BETTER CREDIT AND MORE ON YOUR CARD THIS WOULDNT BE A PROBLEM"!

I didnt know what to say, I was amazed that I was being treated like this. I just stood there crying and embarrised. I truly felt like a piece of trash on the street.

after another 10 minutes she came back over and said sorry the bank wont release your money so you will have to wait 24-48 hour to buy antoher mixer. At that point I shouted F**K You! thank you for making me feel like crap! and thank you fro ruining my christmas because now I have not gift for my Huband! You and this store can go F**k yourselves! I am done!

on my way out I ran in to the GM of the store and I told him what happened, to which he responed well that is not what they told me, I was told you wanted to return the item for a refund. I told him no I was there to exchange it because it was broken. and he told me "well to bad there is nothing I can do, it is your problem not mine."

I left the store and called their 1-888 best buy corporate number where I was told well to bad and that is our policy but for your trouble we will send you a $50.00 gift card and they hung up.

that night I cried most of the evening, I cancled my dinner plans. I was so hurt that i had nothing for my husband, it ruined my holiday beyond repair.

I just hope that others will read this and see how they treat their customers, and think twice before shopping at any best buy.

Sounds strange that they would not exchange the item. Makes no sense really because they have the item in the store for you to repurchase. It would make more sense if they just exchanged the item. Aside from that, stores do not, as a rule, call the police on customers for issues like yours. The customer has to either be extremely loud and disruptive to business or threaten an employee or another customer. They do not call the police because someone is crying. Why do people think we are to believe that because a company is a retail giant that they would do these kinds of things to customers? This post is just a little too melodramatic for me to really take seriously. I mean, come on, I know its upsetting that the unit was broken, and that it was a Christmas present, but you can't honestly expect us to believe it was so bad that you were this traumatized by the whole thing. Christmas ruined? Is your life so void of love/family/friends that a broken KitchenAid would cause you to be this upset? Granted the store did some strange things (and frankly after reading your post I'm not sure I believe what you say actually happened) but its just a mixer. And it was broken. I'm sure your husband didn't break down in sobbing tears and curl up in the fetal position because of this. The part about you crying and the manager saying those terrible things to you killed it for me. You paint a picture of the poor little mouse surrounded by a dozen hungry cats. I'm sorry. I just don't buy that part of the story. It's what I call "fluff", when all I want/need to hear is "Just the facts, Ma'am." And because of all the fluff, I just can't believe the rest of the story (with the exception of the broken mixer).

After I had made the post I spoke with the bank that handles my best buy account because it had been over the 24 -48 hour period and I still havent recieved my refund. I was told by the rep that if Best buy had properly explained to them what was going on they would have done an instant credit to my card for the amount of the mixer and I would have been able to re-purchase one. now I am in even more shock, I am going to do what ever it takes to get even with best buy for what they have done.
