Defective TV/VCR Combo

#2Consumer Suggestion

Owning a TV/VCR Repair Shop for almost seven years now I have seen just about anything electronic and one thing I tell my customers is not to buy a TV/VCR Combo. About 80% of "Combos" are made by "low end manufacturers". It does'nt make a difference what it says on the front of your unit, it still is made by just a handful of companiees. The worse thing a parent can do is buy them a "Combo" especially if they are between ages two through five. Almost every combo that comes in the shop with few exceptions is from a young parent. No disrespect intended, but they buy these units as a substitute for a babysitter. Kids put all sorts of things in the unit and the parent does'nt realize until the tape gets stuck and then someone tries to remove it. I tell my customers there's no harm in trying to take out a tape on a VCR, but "NOT" a "Combo. It takes quite awhile just to take the unit apart, it's not a job for the "do-it-yourselfer". Regarding the ladys' complaint. I would suggest that she goes to her local library and asks the reference librarian for the headquarters phone, fax, etc. of "Best Buy" and then contact them directly. BEFORE YOU BUY TIP: Go to this web site below to check out electronics and just anthing els. It's a really good site that gives you prices and even has reviews from actual customers. http://www.epinions.com/

Its your own fault

It states everywhere around the store in writing as well as the bottom and I think the back od your receipt, Best Buy has a 30 day return and exchange policy. It is your fault you did not try your new unit out. Not every product you buy from any store is going to be in perfect order. Its impossible to be perfect. It is very rare it happens, but it does. You should have been able to contact the manufacturer and have them fix it. Or if you would have bought the 4-year service place you wouldn't have had to worry about it either. If you would have taken the TV back anytime within the 30 days they would have glady exchanged it for another, had it fixed, or even refunded the money. But after the 30 days it is not best buys fault anymore. They can't back all of the products they sell forever, that would not be possible. I don't know really any store that has a return policy of more than 30 days, so instead of blaiming this on best buy I think you should blaim this on yourself. Or is attacking Best Buy just a way of venting your anger of neglecting to read any plainly posted policies?
