The Blimpie located in the Michigan State University Campus Union has been ripping off their Employee's for as long as it has been running there. When the owner there hires you in she promises to give you raises semesterly and then does not give them to you. She also deducts money from her employee's pay checks because their was money short in the drawer, eventhough there was more than one person running the drawer. She also deducts time from workers clock in and clock out reports because they took a break and went to the bathroom. Also, breaks are not given, which is illegal. There have been times before where an employee has worked over 8 hours without a break. If there is a mistake that is made on a sub, even if it is only once a month, the price of the sub is deducted from the employee's paycheck, even if the mistake is that of the customer! This is unfair to the employee's there and I hope that this will start to get the word out. DO NOT WORK for this Blimpie. Not only is the owner unfair to her employee's, she is also rude to customers!

This employer needs to be reported to the Michigan Department of Labor and the attorney general's office. Employees who were docked pay for ANY reason need to file a civil suit against the employer as well. These practices should also be reported to the proper officials within the University, whoever oversees and regulates the on-campus vendors. If you are over 18 employers are not required to give you breaks for rest time no matter how long you work (only minors are required to recieve breaks in Michigan), but they are required to allow you to attend to matters of health and hygeine when necessary. If a female employee was menstruating and wasn't permitted to attend to her needs she would have an excellent case for endangerment of health. Unless specified in a contract, which I'm sure employees here did not have, employers are never allowed to dock an employee's pay without a court order. In summary, report this employer to each and every appropriate agency and round up some fellow employees for a class action suit. Good Luck!

1. It is illegal in most states to take cash shortages from a person's pay. This constitutes what is called an "illegal garnishment." 2. It is illegal for an employer to alter an employee's time sheet in any manner, without the employee signing/initialing the changes. 3. An employee MUST be given a 30 minute lunch break if the employee works six hours and the employee must be given a minimum 10 minute break (15 in some states) for every four hours scheduled. As far as bathroom breaks, these cannot be deducted from an employee's time, and in fact, there was an employer who was found liable for several million in damages, as one employee developed kidney problems due to his policy of not allowing bathroom breaks. Call your local Labor Commissioner to file a complaint, as well as with Federal Wage and Hour.

It's true, and there's better out there!

#4UPDATE EX-employee responds

It's all true! One time I almost wet my pants because I couldn't get a break. Now I work at the Burger King on Spartan Avenue. I have day care, profit sharing, full medical/dental, and the opportunity to make up to triple my salary with incentive bonuses. Blimpies sucks!
