Blount County Sheriff James L. Berrong Deraliction of duty to protect, wasteful spending on un-needed gear Maryville Tennessee
In the Nov. 21, 2007 edition of the Daily Times, Joel Davis wrote an interesting article entitiled "Sheriff: Vicious animal situation must be solved."
The title of this article would lead you to believe that our sheriff is concerned about the welfare of Blount County, but his actions are what have lead to his deraliction of duty to serve and protect.
The article states :"Sheriff James Berrong bluntly told the committee members that the County Commission is going to have to put new animal control officers on payroll to deal with the problem because his office does not have the manpower."
"We're not in the position to do animal control," Berrong said.
WHAT???!!! What kind of BS is this???!!!
Maybe if Sheriff Jimbo, who took an oathe to "serve and protect", hadn't wasted so much money on mobile command centers, $17K hostage phones which have yet to be used and 25 missing cars that were given to who knows, his office might be in a "position to do animal control."
I'd say that this situation is a "Big Joke" if it weren't for the number of taxdollars that Sheriff Jimbo wastes on a regular basis. That's the people's money by the way.
Why does the Blount County Commissioners keep enabling this little rich kid? His management of money is just what you would expect from someone who grew-up without a "budget."
It is my opinion that his refusal to do his job is a complete "deraliction of duty" and falls under the TCA that we have been talking so much about on this website.
Specifically TCA 39-16-402 applies to public servants and candidates for office and prohibits unauthorized exercise of official power, acting in an official capacity exceeding the servanst's power, REFUSAL TO PERFORM A DUTY IMPOSED BY LAW, violating a law relating to the servant office or employment, and recieving a benefit not provided by law.
Which one of these things hasn't he done in the last couple of years?
I just happened to drive by his family's golf course two days ago and noticed a relatively new crown vic for sale outside the club house. Could this be one of the missing vehicles? By the way, where's the audit that was promised by the middle of Novemeber?
Sheriff berrong has turned into nothing more than a common criminal. Only, I guess, he's not common. He's part lambert and that makes him "better than everybody else" I suppose.
Judging from his support of the deralict Judge Dale "fancy pants" Young little "testicular fortitude" party, we can only assume that he has bought into the fascism and narcissm of his party whole-heartedly.
Stay-tuned for my thread concerning Judge Dale Young and our County Mayor Jerry Cunningham.............................

The sheriff took an oath to uphold the laws of the stte of Tennessee. The animal control laws fall under Tennessee Code Annotated. That means that a refusal by a sheriff to do his job, which includes animal control, is a complete violation of the Ethics Laws of 2006. We need an Attorney General who will bring thugs like Sheriff Berrong to justice.
