It may not be boatsdepot that is the scam, but fraudulent sellers using the name or the site. Just like you can't blame Ebay if someone sends an invoice with their logo, but has used it fraudulently without their knowledge.
Just like if you get robbed on craigslist, it is not craigslists fault. It is ALWAYS the buyers responsibility to check out the seller and to not deal with ANY seller that asks you to wire money.
It was good of this poster to report this here however, so others can be aware. As the poster stated in the end of the report, that the same boat was seen for sale on another site with the same pictures...well guess where the fraudulent sellers probably got the pictures from? Simple, copy and paste the photos onto another website, ask a ridiculously low price, and have the sucker wire money for a deposit or delivery charge promising they have time to check it out before sending the rest of the money.
Then the fraudulent "seller" takes the money you wired, which is untraceable and non refundable...throws out the 10 dollar cell phone, never uses the same email account again, and is gone without a trace, no boat ever sent because no boat was ever in the possession of the "seller". Thebuyer is a victim, Ebay is a victim, and the website that had the ad posted is a victim. But the buyer got hurt the worst by far.

I assume they want you to western Union money?
This by the way, has nothing to do with Ebay...as Ebay does not approve of wiring money via Western Union etc.
Most likely, the scammers may use an Ebay logo they simply copied and pasted into an email, a 6 year old could do this.
They will claim things like the money is going to an Ebay "agent" or "broker"..no such thing exists.
Ebay approves of paypal of course since they own it, or using an approved escrow service..such as escrow dot com. This way the funds are held until the buyer is satisfied, if not, the funds are refunded back to the seller no questions asked upon shipping back. No scammer will use this proper procedure since they would not stand to make a dime.
