Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I began my membership with this company in the hopes and beliefs that I could better myself with the help of a PROFESSIONAL in the quest for my weight loss and muscling toning ventures. In the first week, I was being "broken in" by the manager. Things were hopeful. However, after that the "honeymoon phase" was over. Not only was I left completely alone to figure out what maching was what and what machine worked out what....when I asked the employees for help, I was directed to the wrong machines and told how to incorrectly work out.

This was the first red flag that this company and it's affiliates had no clue what they were doing. The next aggrivating experience was when I was told that I was going to be trained by someone new and come to find out a month later, that this "personal trainer" was in fact, NOT A PERSONAL TRAINER...but in fact, just a guy who worked out in that very club and was offered a job with Body of Change. To me, this was false advertisement, seeing as I was charged $1972.00 for a year's membership of being with a certified personal trainer, which I had paid UPFRONT before the first payment was even due!

The next rude encounter that I had, was when I was working out again with the manager on a one day fling, and while doing incline situps, which for me was a difficult task, the trainer shoved me up on my last set so that he could take a gander at the young girls(along with the rest of the men who were working out)as the ladies were walking in for their cheerleading camp practice.

To me....when I PAY FOR A SERVICE, I expect to get that service. I don't care WHAT walks through the door, a level of professionalism needs to be maintained. The next encounter was when I was working out with my unqualified trainer, and he relayed to me that he was a recovering alcoholic and crack-cocaine abuser, which again threw up another red flag. This is what I shelled out almost two thousand dollars for??? Yet this is what Body of Change meant when they told me that I'd be under that advise of a professional?????

Another unpleasant ordeal that I had with the manager, is when I was up for my monthly review of my progress. As any typical person, I was eager to know if my hard work had paid off, and to my disappointment I was brushed off because either there wasn't enough time because someone was going home, or I had to wait another couple of weeks to "get a better reading because only a month of working out wouldn't show much change." Needless to say, my visits slowed up after that and the final straw was when yet another fellow weight lifter was hired and this kid had no bigger build than that of my 10 year old son. This guy spent his time talking about his drinking weekends and wild parties......kinda encouraging, right?

To me, Body of Change has no clue as to what PROFESSIONALISM is and seriously needs to remember that we as customers are walking through the doors of a gym because we have a need and desire to better ourselves. I left Body of Change feeling completely dissappointed and discouraged. I felt like if I had walked through the doors looking like a perfect 10, then maybe I would have received the attention that I should have gotten for being a PAYING CUSTOMER. As for the trainer who I had for the short time that I was there.....it has to be said that he was supportive of helping me morally....but as for being what I had paid for in the means of a certified physical trainer, he was not. And for that, I should have been given a refund of the money that I misleadingly paid for professional services. But when I tried to contact the billing department for assistance...well that's another complaint within itself.

Body of Change Makes Good on My Complaints Parma, Ohio

#2Author of original report

Fri, April 01, 2005

I would like to make known that the company, Body of Change, has made good with resolving my complaint regarding their services. Rachel, who was a pleasant and understanding professional, contacted me on numerous occasions to rectify what I believed to be an unsatisfying experience. Rachel oversees the stores in Ohio to ensure customer satisfaction and she was truely dedicated to making sure that I felt the matter was resolved. Although my contract with Body of Change was non-refundable, she agreed to reimburst me for the cost of my unused lessons, which I 100% agreed was fair. She not only listened to my concerns, but she made me feel like somebody cared that I was unhappy. She also relayed me that she would look into requiring that all employees hired of their company would have background checks, to ensure that we as customers would receive professional and certified trainers to help us achieve our physical goals. This made me feel much happier to know that Body of Change was concerned with what their customers thought and how they felt. To me, Rachel made me feel like I was more than an account number. She made me feel like a person and I am very appreciative of that. Those of you reading this should also know that Body of Change does not ignore complaints that are brought before them. This company is willing to ensure that they maintain a good reputation in the gyms and also strive to provide professional and knowledgeable trainers to keep their customers (past and present)satisfied. Again, I am VERY satisfied with how Body of Change has resolved my complaint. Thank you, Rachel!

Michael Karban is the Body of Change District Manager for Cleveland, OH. His contact information is 267-246-8443 or 1-888-357-2474 Ext #53. Please report the unprofessionalism and concerns of Body of Change staff at the Parma Fitworks Fitness Center. Then, Call Fitworks at 1-877-FEEL-FIT and let them know how you feel about Body of Change. Fitworks should not associate with such a disreputable, dicomforting company. Fitworks should rid Body of Change from their clubs. Body of Change staff are also a nuisance at both the Akron & Stow-Kent Fitworks Fitness Centers. Women are tired of being targeted. Fitworks Fitness Centers truly do a disservice to their members by subcontracting to & bringing in trainers from Body of Change. Fitworks members shouldn't have to feel like they need to change their usual workout times & clubs in order to avoid facing high pressure solicitation from unprofessional Body of Change trainers.
