Bold Earth Teen Adventures is run by greedy, negligent owners Nationwide
This report was created to warn parents and travelers of the negliglence of Bold Earth Teen Adventures, and the mendacity and corruption of its owner, Abbot Wallis.
Bold Earth Teen Adventures is supposedly an accredited organization, claiming to provide safe and worthwhile adventure tours for young teenagers. In July of 2012, they proved the opposite. Bold Earth supervisors allowed a tour group of twelve, 14 and 15-year-old teenagers to hike in a dangerous area outside the bounds of the company's permit.
The teens were told by their guides to rest in a tide pool area even though high surf warnings had been issued. Not surprisingly, a wave hit the area where the teens were standing, carrying two boys out to sea and injuring several others. One boy was never recovered.
The family of the missing teen was not notified until 5 HOURS AFTER the incident, and no one from Bold Earth was waiting to meet them when they arrived in Hawaii to search for their son. The tour continued as planned after the boy went missing, AS IF NOTHING HAD HAPPENED.
When the (Madoff) family finally located the tour group, the tour operator LIED to them, saying he was not close to their son when the wave hit, and there was nothing he could do. Locals and other witnesses told the family this was a LIE. The boy was close and the tour operator did nothing. Bold Earth tour guides that were supposed to be in charge and properly trained did not have ANY equipment with them- NO CELL PHONES, flares or medical equipment.
Company owner Abbot Wallis immediately pointed the finger at the other company contracted by Bold Earth to supervise the teens during the kayaking trip. Wallis never expressed condolences to the family after the loss of their son. He looked for ways to save his own skin.
Companies like Bold Earth should not be allowed to remain in business and in charge of children!! How can they be so ill-prepared and negligent of the rules in such a dangerous place. What's worse - the company lied to save themselves instead of helping the family of the child they let drown.
