Like the airline, car rental companies are coming up with new and novel ways of scamming customers with extra charges. Working out of Milwaukee Wisconsin International Airport, Budget car rental is now charging to vacuum out their cars and charging the customer for excessive spoilage fee. $150 dollar was the arbitrary sum that was charged because they found sand on the floor mats.

So with that logic a customer could be charged to wash a car that had tree pollen on it, road grim from a wet road or dirt on the tires. When the budget customer service representative was asked what determined the cost of the clean up, surely the detail worker wasn’t earning more than $20 dollar an hour. The representative said that we were being charged for the time the car was not available for rental. So at $68 dollars a day it took two days to vacuum sand from the floor mats?

Having purchased the Budget auto insurance to cover damages to vehicle, surely sand on the floor mats would be covered. Nope, but they would be more than willing to see us half way and only charge us half the cleaning charge.

So when renting a car from Budget, know your responsibilities, return the car with a full gas tank, no smoking, no eating, no driving on wet roads, avoid outside pollutants- keep the windows rolled up at all times, leaning your head against the head rests may leave loose hair or oil deposits on the fabric, don’t fart the sulfur may rot the interior prematurely, don’t touch anything- oils from your skin will cause fingerprint etch, Don’t breath in the car- you might steam up the windows, don’t get out of the car except for when you drop off the car to the return center. Ask the attendant if the car meets the rental companies standards, oh wait we did that.
