Beware of Entry Level Sales and Marketing Consultant positions listed on Monster, Career Builder, Hot Jobs, and any other job search engine.

The jobs always sound very enticing, but are a trap for young people who may have recently graduated and are looking for a REAL job to begin a marketing career. However, these jobs are not so much Marketing, as much as they are Door-to-Door, Face-to-Face, or Business-to-Business SALES.

The claims are that you can begin with NO experience and within mere weeks you are promoted to a Team Leader. After months of training as a Team Lead, you are promoted to Assistant Manager, and then you are promoted to a Manager position and can open your own marketing company, with an entirely new name that you choose.

The money sounds awesome. They tell you how you will retire in 10 years and be wealthy. They discuss these big dreams and goals. They make it sound like becoming a millionaire is within easy reach.

However, they regret to inform you that you basically have to give up the rest of your life and your freedom and give 110% of yourself to this "entry level" job, while the higher-ups (who you will rarely meet) make the BIG BUCKS.

Don't get me wrong, the money is there....but it is 100% commission that you have to earn by selling a certain product to strangers. And, like I said, you have to work LONG hours to earn this money.

Here is my story:

I went to the first interview and was asked to come back for a second interview. This second interview is out in the field. You have to follow the Team Lead to wherever the 'field' is and observe them in action for a couple hours. You witness them selling (or trying to sell) the product to strangers who, most times, do not want it. Then, you discuss the great opportunities they have in the training program...how fast you can become a manager and have your own company and how much money you will earn every week. They do NOT mention that it is 100% commission based, not consistent, and you can basically not take any time off or ever be late, and you must work 60+ hours a week and 6 days a week.

I was hired and began my new job at 9am. You do a lot of interacting with one another....play some games...practice your selling techniques...go over all the sales methods....talk about your goals....etc. By 11am, you need to be in the field, where you will spend ALL DAY selling your product to random folks.

At 7pm it's time to head back to the office where you discuss your productivity, discuss your day with the others, and talk about what you need to work on the next day. If you did well, you get to ring the bell and run around clapping, yelling, giving high-5's, that type of thing. Around 7:45pm you can head out for the night. That's nearly an eleven hour day, in which you get about a 30 minute break.

Not to mention, you must do this SIX days a week. You only get one day off, and that's Sunday.

I don't know about you, but I cannot give up everything else in my life JUST to help these so-called marketing folks make money. I have pets to take care of, a home to clean, a husband to care for, dinner to cook, cars to wash, laundry to do, friends to see, family to spend time with, etc.

The long hours and extended work week for 100% commission is a lot to ask of a young person just out of college. Forget about having any kind of social life, a boyfriend/girlfriend, spouse, friends, hobbies, pets, ANYTHING. You have to be 100% devoted to your job and this company in order to succeed.

They don't ever mention this, so beware. Don't fall into the trap. I had to quit after only 2 days because I knew that I could not compromise my marriage like that. I only wish they'd told me everything up front so that I would not have wasted 4 days (2 interviewing and 2 working) during my job-hunt.

Good luck.

I used to work for this company and wish I could have the whole world know the cruel and deceptive practice this company partakes in. As for that, I settle for this website. I have not worked for Calee/ Dynamic Balance/ 10 inc  in over 3 years, but I keep tabs on what they're up to. They have "promoted" 3 people to owners recently: Jason Royce, Brandon Kaminski and another young lady named Kristina Klapperich. Jason is in Oregon and Kristina just moved to Idaho. I do not know where Brandon Kaminski went. It seems Jason does Qwest as a campaign but I do not know what the other 2 are. If you are called for this interview DO NOT go. I know Jason and Brandon and they're decent people but the nature of their business is unethical. I do not know Kristina, but I am sure it is only a matter of time until we see her name and company, Big Sky Marketing, pop up on this website as well. Jason's company is called D.M.A. Solutions.

It's the same company.  I think that they gave up on changing names so they just changed their website this time.  If Jenn was really making even a fraction of the money she was claiming to, don't you think she could afford more than a $30 website template?

Jennifer Cauvin Harris has changed her company name for the 3rd time in 2 years.  The new company is 10 inc (www.10inc.net).  Why does she keep changing her company name?  It's simple, she is a scam artist and when people discover her scam she tries to move on to the next name.  I am sure she will have another company name change in another few months.

As customary with these Cydcor offices Calee Marketing has changed their name in an attempt to reinvent themselves due to all of the complaints about their company.  Calee Marketing is now Dynamic Balance in Washington (www.dynamicbalance.us).  Jennifer Cauvin is now Jennifer Cauvin Harris.  They are still looking for anyone with a pulse to peddle their inferior products for pennies a day.  Want to work 70 hours a week for a MLM cult while Jenn keeps dangling a make-believe carrot in front of you?  I wasted several months working for this low life and now I have opened up my own business working 30 hours a week and I guarantee that I make twice as much as her in a a real business with actual ethics.  Why slave 70 hours a week and play by her rules in order to open up your own business when you can start your own and play by your own rules?  The best part is that I get to keep all of the profit that my company makes instead of having to share with an upline like Jenn and her boss Ed Cunliffe and his boss.  Don't get tricked by all of her deceitful tactics.

I tried to use this company to remodel the reception area and conference room in my office building and they were not pleasant to deal with. Their work was not up to standards at all. They were slow to respond to questions and their work took much longer than they said it would. Calee Marketing isn't the best company for office rennovations! In the end they completed the projects, but I wouuld never use them again.

I was one of the people who moved with Calee. We did not stop in Phoenix. I'm sure when the person posted that, they thought they were supposed to be headed to phoenix. Plans changed in Atlanta and we decided to go to Seattle. And, we didn't have three bedroom apartments and we didn't have to pay our moving costs. Whoever you are, you clearly don't talk with anyone who ACTUALLY went. Do your own research and you will find all of that to be true. Go ahead. Call the people you supposedly know so well.

Calee was in Phoenix, hence why the 2nd post here was made from Phoenix. Calee wasn't there very long, but if you need proof why don't you ask the members of Calee who had to pay for their own moving expenses from Florida to Arizona. Also ask them about the 3 bedroom apartment lease in Phoenix. Anyone who uses Wikipedia as a reliable source is off their rocker. But this should be fun, let's define this. Here is the definition Multi-level marketing (MLM), also known as Network Marketing, is a business-distribution model that allows a parent company to market its products directly to consumers by means of relationship referrals and direct selling. *This is accurate, Cydcor is the parent company, Calee brags about the fact that it is direct marketing, and the relationship referrals are the branch offices of Cydcor such as Calee. Independent, unsalaried salespeople of multi-level marketing, referred to as distributors (or associates, independent business owners, dealers, franchise owners, sales consultants, consultants, independent agents, etc.), represent the parent company and are awarded a commission based upon the volume of product sold through each of their independent businesses (organizations). *Sales people are independent with W4 tax forms. They are unsalaried, unless we are talking about minimum wage. Cydcor's branch offices (Calee) represent the parent company. For everything the sales rep sells a commission is awarded from Cydcor (after it gets paid) to the overriding offices and the manager of the branch office with the sales rep getting only about a 1/3rd of Cydcor's profit. Independent distributors develop their organizations by either building an active customer base, who buy direct from the parent company, or by recruiting a downline of independent distributors who also build a customer base, thereby expanding the overall organization. Additionally, distributors can also earn a profit by retailing products they purchased from the parent company at wholesale price. *The branch offices recruit sales people so that they can these sales people can open their own branch office where the parent branch office receives an override on sales volume. If the 2nd generation branch office gets one of their sales people to open a 3rd generation branch office, the original branch office now gets an override on both the 2nd and 3rd generation branch offices. On the job interviews Calee brags about how they have 200+ branch offices; well it's really Cydcor who has these offices. This way the organization is expanded. The last part about profit through retail would apply if Cydcor sold tangible products, but since they only sell services this is meaningless. Distributors earn a commission based on the sales efforts of their organization, which includes their independent sale efforts as well as the leveraged sales efforts of their downline. This arrangement is similar to franchise arrangements where royalties are paid from the sales of individual franchise operations to the franchisor as well as to an area or region manager. Commissions are paid to multi-level marketing distributors according to the company's compensation plan. There can be multiple levels of people receiving royalties from one person's sales. *The point of joining Calee is to open a downline. Calee itself is a downline of Wentworth Marketing whose boss makes an override on all sales done by Calee. Let's say someone at Calee makes a sale. Besides the reps, Cydcor pays an override to the manager of Calee, the manager of Wentworth, and so on up the line. Anyway, even though Wikipedia is normally not a valid source, this definition seems pretty spot on word for word.

Calee Marketing never even passed through Phoenix, Arizona. Anyone is free to do the research. I think it is interesting no one does any real research. They went straight from West Palm Beach to Seattle.

Original Poster is 100% Correct

#12UPDATE EX-employee responds

Sun, October 05, 2008

The original poster understands the system. This job is for young, unmarried, college-educated kids who still live with their parents. It's best to have no commitments or relationships. This company hires anyone who passes their background check. At least half of the applicants turn down the job and at least half of the people who start quit after the first day or two. The original poster is not alone. Calee was in West Palm Beach for about 2 years and had about 25 employees. Let's do some math; they interviewed about 20 people per day 5 days a week; no interviews were held on Saturdays because who wants let let interviewees know that they'd be working on Saturday? 20 people a day at 5 days a week adds up to 100 interviews per week. 2 years comprises about 100 work weeks (50 weeks in a year). That means that Calee ran through 10, 000 interviews and only retained 25 employees. Hmm. It's true that kids out of college can tend to be lazy and bad workers. Let's assume for the record that a huge number, 75% were simply bad workers and simply would not take the position for fear of hard work or simply couldn't hack it once hired. That leaves 2500 people, of which only 25 were retained. One percent. Two people did make it to management and open up a branch office. The first one, named Pembroke Acquisitions completely flopped after a year and the owners had to start all over again in the program to be retrained properly. That doesn't sound like something that would happen to someone who really owned their own business does it? Read below as I expand on why people really don't own their own business in this company. The second company is in its infant stage and is still building at Calee Marketing's old stomping grounds in West Palm Beach named TFI Solutions. I am more than happy to point out the falsities in the rebuttal from the current employee. Here are the facts: Up to around April of 2008 in West Palm Beach, Florida the campaign was 6 days a week and virtually 100% commission. You get whichever is greater: your full commission for the week or minimum wage for the hours you were selling (46 hours a week) so around $300 for a 6 day work week. Calee Marketing moved to Phoenix upon someone taking over the branch office in West Palm Beach and renaming it The Future Inc Solutions (TFI Solutions). For some reason the campaign flopped in Phoenix and the operation has moved to Seattle, WA. That means Calee operated out of 3 locations within about 6 months. Hmmm. This company does tell you that you are going to retire in 10 years. There are workshops stating that its more beneficial to work for this company than to be a lawyer or doctor since this provides an equal or better opportunity without the peril of student loan debt. Both the original poster and the responder are right about one thing, but for different reasons. You will not meet the real higher-ups in the first few days, and usually weeks of this job. This is understandable since Calee Marketing may be its own corporate name but it operates within a network of 200+ offices in North America. So just like you won't meet the higher ups at Walmart right away, you won't meet the higher ups at Cydcor right away. They should not, however, make it seem like you get to own your own company at the end of the training program, you simply get to save up $10k+ of your own money, open up your own branch office, and receive overrides on your reps. Let me give you an example with rough numbers. At Calee, we sold home phone and DSL service for at&t. Cydcor was paid approximately $70 for each new DSL customer pending rejects. This commissions differed based on which speed of DSL was sold, but for our purposes lets assume the highest speed was sold. Approximately $24 was given by Cydcor the the rep, $18 was given to the manager of a branch office, and the rest was shared by the executives at Cydcor and the other branch office that trained the owner of Calee. This has been confirmed by multiple branch office managers. At Calee reps were constantly told that this was not a multi level marketing scheme because at&t paid $24 directly to the rep. Complete BS. Besides the fact that it was simply not true, it was a complete insult to one's intelligence. Can you imagine the accounting team and CFO of at&t being dumb enough to try and record 4 different payments to 4 different people when it could simply write one check to Cydcor? Cydcor does office genuine opportunities to open up a branch office and receive overrides on your own reps and managers of offices below you. You just have to be willing to lie and cheat your way to the top without moral regard for those you hurt. If you can check your conscience at the door and trample over other people then Cydcor is the right opportunity for you.

This person is absolutely right that we ask for hard work and dedication. In the end of our process, a person OWNS their own company. It is their company, no one else's. Anyone reading this should feel free to ask anyone who is a business owner how many hours they put into their business. I'm sure they will respond with "everyday, all day". We absolutely ask for 110% dedication. We do not work for 100% commision nor do we work 6 days a week. And, perhaps this person didn't have consistent pay, but that is not our fault. If they don't perform consistently would it not make sense their pay reflects it... just like any other career involving commission? Besides, how would they know what consistent pay is... they worked 2 days. We pay hourly OR commission, whichever is greater. As far as hi 5s and games at work? who cares? How is that bad? Yes. we do sales and marketing. What they failed to mention is we represent fortune 500 clients only. It's not like we're slinging tickets to local restaurants. I have NEVER told anyone they will be a millionaire or that it was easy, at any rate. Obviously, it's hard work. I happened to also meet atleast 3 of our top consultants within 2 months of first working for our company who sat down with me one on one to ask me what they could do better to help me hit my goals. Not just that, but they actually took my advice and made changes. Tell me how many CEOs or Presidents of companies ever sit their employees down and ever do the same. "The claims are that you can begin with NO experience and within mere weeks you are promoted to a Team Leader. After months of training as a Team Lead, you are promoted to Assistant Manager, and then you are promoted to a Manager position and can open your own marketing company, with an entirely new name that you choose." Absolutely! I did it myself. 10 days to team leader. 1 year to manager. Before I did this job, I had never done sales...I worked front desk at a Best Western. "I don't know about you, but I cannot give up everything else in my life JUST to help these so-called marketing folks make money. I have pets to take care of, a home to clean, a husband to care for, dinner to cook, cars to wash, laundry to do, friends to see, family to spend time with, etc." If this is how you feel, then what we do is clearly not for you. We're not here to FORCE anyone to do what we do. I know I certainly have a life. I have a husband, a child, a home and a dog. I just happen to know how to time manage. "I had to quit after only 2 days because I knew that I could not compromise my marriage like that. I only wish they'd told me everything up front so that I would not have wasted 4 days (2 interviewing and 2 working) during my job-hunt." Whoever worked at Wal Mart for 2 days and met even a district manager? Did you ever even recieve a paycheck? How is 2 days a fair trial for anything? I know if I were trying to get in shape and worked out really hard for two days straight and never saw improvements I would quit because clearly my cause was hopeless. I understand what I do isn't for everyone, but it certainly is the farthest thing from a scam. I also apologize if 2 days in a new position compromised your marriage, I know that wasn't our doing.
