Everything you were told wasn't true. You aren't a cosigner - you are the main person on the account. If the other person was under 18 they can't legally sign a contract, so the ONLY way you could be removed from the original contract is if they signed a new one after they turned 18 and voided the original....which rarely happens when you renew with the same cell phone provider. Not sure what kind of case you would have buy hiring a lawyer....as a cosigner you are 100% obligated to make sure that the bill is paid in full, so make sure that it is paid. But your credit is probably already damaged from it, and it was done legally.
