CAMCO (Capital Acquisitions & Management Company) Fraudulent collection attempt BIG SCAM ARTISTS and Ripoff Rockford Illinois
I want to thank everyone for posting their experiences with this company.
I received one of their nice little letters just before Christmas, demanding payment on a GE Capital account that was opened under my SSN. I could not fathom to imagine what I owed and why, so of course I thought someone had ripped off my identity. I called CAMCO and my rep was immediate rude and nasty. She would not even provide me with any info on the supposed account other than it was for GE Capital. After a little prodding, I got her to tell me the original amount of the debt they acquired from FOURSCORE RESOURCE CAPITAL, LLC. Turns out the account they want me to pay on was a Mastercard I had over 10 years ago. When I purchased my first house, my closing attorney had me pay off the card and close the account.
All was fine and well until 1998 when I got a notice from The Credit Store, a California based collection company, saying that I still owed the debt. I provided The Credit Store with the proof of payment and the issue was dropped, or so I thought. According to CAMCO records, the account they are trying to collect on is the same account number that The Credit Store assigned to me in 1998. They are not referencing the Mastercard number. Odd????
During my original phone call with CAMCO I spoke to Michelle Taylor (a supposed supervisor?), who freely admitted that this debt will never be reported to the credit bureaus. This fact together with The Credit Store coincidence made me realize that there was something definitely wrong with this situation.
Thankfully I have found that my experience is not unique. I will be sending them the C & D letter tomorrow as well as filing complaints with the FTC, BBB and the AG in IL! Anyone who gets a letter from this company, be advised that this is a fraud and scam.
