I can't believe I just found this now! I've been harassed off and on for 2 1/2 YEARS on a Discover card debt settled nearly 4 years ago!
What makes these people so scummy is that they targeted my parents, who used to have bad credit. It's easy to bully & confuse people when you remind them of their past mistakes. However, they have long since paid and settled every account with help from financial counselors. Fast forward 4 years>>
That's where the letters comes in... then the faxes & the phone calls about how we HAVE to pay off or else the figure will go higher. HeLLO-what figure?? There is no debt! Fortunately, I kept proof of settlement on that BOGUS Discover debt and Maxine Wilson said CAMCO was wrong, I was right, they won't call. YEAH RIGHT! From late 2001 to April 2003 I got calls from more idiots at CAMCO telling me to pay up...Pam Graves, Erica West, Ally Summers...of course, they were nice about it & went away because eventually they were stumped.
Now, another CAMCO schmuck---let's call him Greg Hanson (1-877-298-0845 ext.1182)---tells us that there's a 10+ year old debt with Bank of America that was originally $2,000USD. Since CAMCO bought the account, it has become $5,500USD after interest and penalties. He says if I pay by today, he could lower the payment to $500. Now, my parents take credit seriously--as they should--and they know that CAMCO is a fake. Still, to be safe we check out their credit reports and big surprise, no debts!
I refuse to deal with liars or thieves. I thought about paying it off just so they'd leave me alone at least; but NO WAY! Companies like this one feed off vulnerability. I'm so angry that such a nasty company can get hold of your credit report and make false accusations and pressure people to pay off bogus debts. What was intimidation has become outright indignation. Please contact local and national authorities, organizations about their shady dealings.
