I just want to clarify what Angie said. She is doing a great job along with others exposing CAMCO for what they are. But I must be sure everyone understands. The Statute of Limitations in Iowa may be 5 years, but that doesn't mean CAMCO can't legally go after anyone for the debt! It is 5 years for things like reposessions, marks on your credit report, and judgements. CAMCO can go after the debt, they cannot threaten your credit or put a judgement against you. They can try to collect, but they don't have a leg to stand on. Creedit reports purge after 7 years and documentation is destroyed after the years go by. Sometimes a debt is sold so many times that the information is outdated and incorrect and its hard to tell who the original debtor is. And if you settled a debt for anything less than the FULL AMOUNT PLUS INTEREST any collection agency can sell the balance to collect later. THIS IS LEGAL UNFORTUNATELY. That is why you hear people say "that was settled years ago!" If it was only a portion of what was owed, you are in trouble down the line. GOOD LUCK PEOPLE! PLEASE BE INFORMED!

I mailed off a cease and disist letter today to Camco. I wasn't home for more than an hour when Joe Ortiz called again asking me if I decided to take their offer ( write him 6 months of post dated checks). I asked him not to call again and that the SOL on this debt is long past. He became unglued and started screaming at me. I mentioned to him that he was using a false name by his own admission from a previous conversation and that I had the right to know who I was speaking to. Again he became irate. I told him there was not a thing he could do about this debt and that I would only deal with the original creditor. At that point I hung up the phone and put a block on the number. I know they can use another number to call but it doesn't matter, I know what it takes to push their buttons and it feels great. I'm prepared to speak to them again if I have to only because of this site and the people here. I have learned a great deal about the laws and my rights. It helped to know that Camco is also doing this to many others and we all have to put a stop to this. I am not going to let them harass and threaten me again. I have the right ammunition to fight them.

I have been amazed at how many people are reporting this CAMCO place. More than once I have read reports about this place collecting on very old debts or non existant debts. There is a site on the web at www.carreonandassociates.com that gives very good reference to collection laws in what ever state you live in. If you can't find that site look in the search for "limitations on debt collection", and you will find many sites to choose from. For your info, the limitation for collecting a debt in Iowa is 5 years. 10 years if it is a legal contract. No matter what state you live in DO NOT PAY CAMCO A CENT!!!!!! If you do, that could make you responsible. Always ask for written proof of the debt and they have to give it to you within 30 days. They can not sue you for a debt because they would have to send the papers to the courts and if they are bogus, they are going to avoid that. Keep a record of all phone calls, including dates and times, who you spoke with. Once you write a cease and desist letter and they call you again, they are now in violation of Federal Law. For each Federal violation they can be sued $1000.00. There is a way to stop these collectors; and from what I'm reading about them, it won't be long. Best of luck to all
