Capital One ripoff! Annual fee and charges 29.9% apr Nottingham England
In November 2003 I was within my credit limit on my capital one classic card 29.(%APR} however since they applied a yearly fee, {which I might add I had no idea was applicable on a classic card} as in all their ads it says no annual fee on classic cards. This rendered me over my credit limit. They then proceeded to add charges at 20.00 overlimit.
They gave me no notice of this yearly charge, I telephoned on Saturday 17/01/04 and talked to one of you representatives, who I may add was very unhelpful and infact very rude and immature, she informed me that I should have received notice about the yearly fee, I told her I had not, her reply was I am not going to argue with you sir" I have refused to pay them a penny until this charge and all charges since have been removed from the account, and sent back the card cut up, they say not received {suprise}and the charges are mounting up at nearly 60.00 a month on an original 800.00 limit since nov 03 til now feb its nearly 200.00 and rising. Capital One seems to be slow to credit payment to your account but ultra fast at putting on late charges.
As this charge is 20 a time it has the effect of making the debt spiral out of control. Also payments are generally credited to the account a day or two after the late payment penalty has been applied, Capital One's administration leaves something to be desired.
How can they advertise no annual fee then charge one? This has put me in to the red and I may seek legal advice as this was not my fault. This is the reason I have not made any payment, and will not. I would advise anyone thinking of getting a capital one card to give it a miss.
