You stated that security has a right to do a "citizens arrest" which is accurate, that is all security has the right to do and can still be sured in court for false imprisonment. As for a security officer having the same jurisdiction as a deputy sherrif that is inaccurate. Security officers are not police and are suppose to respond in a peaceful manner. Security officers can be arrested and sued for mistreatment and many other things. But in NO way are police, nor are they like a deputy sherrif.

Just to correct some information, while you are right that NC security has no arrest authority other then citizen's arrest the Carowinds Park Security is certified by the State of South Carolina and with that certification has the same authority as a deputy sheriff while on the property.

I worked for Paramount Parks (different park however) in the security department for two years. It was company policy that no juviniles were spoken too without the guardian at least being notified, and present if requested. Furthermore, some parks have both park police and security. Security officers are not even permitted to touch individuals unless they themselves are assulted. It should also be noted that security guards in North Carolina have no arrest athourity. If this story did happen as you have stated, then I'm pretty sure that that employee recieved a severe punishment. Most likely he was terminated. Furthermore, you could have had the officer arrested for the way he handled your son. However, having worked for amusement parks for awhile now, I can say that guests tend to get upset and over react to such things as getting bumped into. I fail to understand this, but it happens. Once people get upset, words are exchanged, and security gets called to handle the situation. Typically, its best to pull the alleged offending party away and speak to them in a neutral location. But as I stated before, typically we have to notify the parents when we speak to someone.
