I selected to trade in my iPhone 5 after being given a quote online that my phone might be worth up to $267. I expected that based on my phone not being brand new and having minor cosmetic wear and tear that the price would fall somewhere south of that figure but north of $200 (as most major US celluar carries are offering on the iphone 5). Image my suprise when I received an email from PayPal that CashForIphones had send me $40.
I immediately contacted cashforiphones and stated I was no satisfied with that quote and would like my device returned to me. They said it was not a quote, they paid me and would be keeping the device "it was already processed and could not be returned" (was their exact quote).
I explainedI was unsatisfied and was choosing not to do business with them, they could keep their $40 and return my phone. They refused. It was only when I mentioned that I would be contacting the better business bureau and complaining online that they started to become more accomadating.
I gave them the following prerequisits:
1) I would not accept a cent under $200 as that was the offer from the major carriers for my device.
2) If they could not meet the above I would like my property returned as keeping property under terms which was not agreed to by both parties is tanamout to stealing.
They continued to up their offer on the phone $60, $80, $100, $160, $180 which tells me they understand the value of the device and were purely trying to lowball anyone they can with hopes that the consumer will simply role over and take it.
Ultimately the phone has been returned. Which tells me they could have returned it at any point and it had not already been processed.
The company has poor business practices and does not offer fair payment for the device. Also once they inspect the device, they should give you a quote. If you accept, great. If not then the device should be returned without you having to call and complain.
Please do not do business with these people. They are lowballing the public and trying to get away with offering as little as possible for your property.
