Ethan Platteborze pled guilty in Federal Court on July 2, 2003. This follows on the heels of Kenneth Kluss's earlier guilty plea and agreement to testify against Ethan. Ethan Platteborze, along with Cavalier Salvage co-owner Kenneth Kluss, will be sentenced on December 8, 2003. Both are expected to serve multi-year prison terms for their fraud scheme and will be ordered to pay restitution to their numerous victims. Thanks to the Rip Off Report for providing a forum to notify co-victims! We built a stronger case against these crooks because of you. Cavalier Salvage Victim (November 2000)

I know for a fact that Ethan is a con artist. I am a victim, and I have spoken to many other victims. I have a written agreement from Ethan wherein he promised to sell to me "New, non-defaced Craftsman tools". Does that sound like "junk"? No, clearly it does not. What I received was defective RTV general merchandise from Sears. I have copies of my contract from Ethan, and I have photographs of the merchandise he shipped. What was promised bears NO resemblance to what was delivered. That constitutes fraud, any way you look at it. I have reported Ethan to the FBI, as have numerous others. I know he is scheduled for trial in June 2003. I do not know of any charges "being dropped", and I suspect this claim is false. Ethan is the crook that I and others claim he is. That isn't slander, it's a fact. -Mike Bowler

Ethan Platteborze, formerly of Cavalier Salvage, is an acquaintance of mine, and his father is a good friend of mine. Frankly, the "Ripoff Reports" I've seen against Cavalier Salvage and Ethan Platteborze all have similar deficiencies in their claims: (1) Most of the complaints are from anonymous persons. Most of these complaints are clearly libelous (written defamation). If there were anything to the complaints, then they wouldn't resort to complaining anonymously. Only a few of these ripoff complaints identified themselves, and a number of those are not in existence at the websites and/or e-mail addresses they provide. (2) Many of the complainants say they were ripped-off when they purchased SALVAGE from a SALVAGE COMPANY. (It was called "Cavalier SALVAGE", not "Cavalier NEW STUFF".) Salvage means just that, things that are not necessarily new that can be salvaged for use. For those NOT familiar with the salvage business, salvage brokers don't normally handle the salvage themselves, but rather simply "connect" the seller and the buyers together. (Although they do keep their contacts private to assure further business from the buyer.) Salvage brokers don't know what is in most shipments, and they do NOT promise anything, which leads to point number... (3) Extensive disclaimers and contracts were in place on Cavalier Salvage's website, WARNING customers that they may not get anything but junk. With salvage it is always a gamble. In other words, they don't really have a right to complain if they received their shipments, which leads to point number... (4) Ethan Platteborze has been investigated and charged for criminal wrongdoing. Most of these charges have also been dropped, since they were clearly false. The reason charges were dropped is for the same reason there are a number of anonymous ripoff reports on this site: Ethan's former girlfriend wanted revenge on Ethan, which backfired when the FBI determined that she was lying about his supposed criminal activities. A number of posts on this site are possibly identifiable as coming from Ethan's girlfriend or her father. That is one of the major flaws in these ripoff reports: they allow libelous statements from people who simply want revenge on innocent persons. There may be no proof whatsoever, but people still write this drivel. I have known Ethan Platteborze's father for a number of years and can testify to his honesty. Bill, Ethan's father, has testified to me of Ethan's business, and Ethan himself has also told me of his business dealings. I think the clincher for me is that the authorities have decided that he is innocent of fraudulent activities...which opens up many of the posters on this site to civil suits for libel... Good luck!

WoW! It's amazing what one un-happy customer that has been banned from the business will go through to simply try and get "Revenge" on-line because they did not "Like" their merchandise.
We are a Corp/ REG. in the State Of Oregon, we have over 2,800 HAPPY customers, and more calling everyday. It's sad when one loser can try to defame and slander on the web. (Note the last users post did not even include an e-mail address to address him) It's a petty person that hides on the internet, and I would not put much salt in what that user had to say.
