I had a problem with my clutch, so I took my car to Centennial Automotive Repair. There is body damage to the hood, but nothing so severe it was undriveable. The damage has been there for a year and the car has made several trips out of state.

When my car was fixed, I left the shop and proceeded onto the highway. I noticed the hood looked a little shaky (the damage causes some air to flow through engine space while driving) so I pulled to the shoulder and had my boyfriend look at it. He said it looked ok (meaning the bungee cord I had tied on for extra security was still in place). We got back in the car and when I sped up to 55mph, the hood flew up and spiderwebbed the whole bottom of the windshield.

Luckily, we were safe and I got the car to the side of the road. Upon examination, I learned that the mechanic had simply hitched the bungee and had not actually latched the hood when finished working.

After what could have been a very dangerous accident, windshield damage, latch damage (the hood now has to be tied down with wire coat hangers), and damage to the windshield wiper fluid container, Centennial has refused to cover any damages on the grounds that the car was already damaged. I say that's no reason not to repair the damage that they caused. I have had no luck and have been persistently trying to get a meeting with the owner for a month now.

Are you serious? By your own admission, the hood latch is not working

By your own admission, the hood latch is not working. You say the hood is held in place with a bungee cord. Now you think the shop that put in a clutch is responsible for your damaged jalopy that was already unsafe? This cannot be the musings of a sane person. You didn't want to repair the damage for over a year. I think we can all assume rightly that the reason the front of your vehicle is bashed in is due to your skills as a driver. That would explain why the damage was not repaired. The other driver's insurance would have fixed it if it was the other guy's fault. So now, your trusty bungee cord has broken and you want someone else to pay for your brilliance. Get a grip. The repair shop is not at fault. It's reports like this one that give this site a bad name. In reality, ED should really have someone going through these and just eliminate the stupid ones, like yours. I can assure you that if my shop had done the clutch repair, you would have either paid me to fix the hood latch, or you'd have been told to sign a waiver eliminating any and all liability against me. Either that, or you'd have just gone on to find another shop stupid enough to do the job without the needed repair or waiver. Absolutely amazing.

By you own admission the hood had to be secured by a bungee cord. you should have fixed it to begin with. now because you failed to fix the problem for over a year you want to blame someone else when the hood finally tears up. Get real....blame yourself
