Centex Home Equity THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THEIR AFRICAN-AMERICAN EMPLOYEES Lewisville Texas
I was employeed by Centex in Lewisville, Tx. I am an African American male that experienced some racial harrassment. An email was sent out from a previous employee that stated 80% of Detroit is black. This was during election time. A white Republican made the statement that in order for the Rep. to win the election, they need to suppress the black vote. Most know that blacks vote democrat.
A white manager still employed at Centex made the following comment:
"A 74-yr old Republican doesn't necessarily reflect the viewpoints of my generation. I am, however, overjoyed by the fact that the assault weapons ban has been lifted as I am in the process of obtaining and stocking my URBAN gun store in Detroit. Peace, tree huggers"
I took that email to upper management and they basically did nothing. He was still able to keep his job as a branch manager and is still making the company alot of money. As a matter of fact, I got word from a couple of friends that still work there that he might be getting a promotion and also might help Centex open another office in Colorado.
I took this issue all the way up to the President/CEO which is Tony Barone. Mr Barone wouldn't talk to me. He wouldn't return my calls. He wouldn't return my emails. He had his flunkies contact and speak with me to find out what it would take to make me happy. All the while, letting me know that they aren't going to fire the manager that made the comment.
They said that they reprimanded him, which to me, was a slap on the wrist. Centex is a company that I wouldn't do business with and encourage people not to work there since they don't care about you. Especially if you're African American. If there are any lawyers, media outlets or anyone that could help me in my cause to bring this to light as well as any legal actions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Jeff, I realize that you might not find that offensive as I don't know the makeup of the people in your area. However, it's quite well known that the word "urban" has been associated with African Americans or at least the inner city, where many of them live. Especially with the email stating that 80% of Detroit is black. You don't have to go to Detroit to read what was written and understand. If that comment was made and the word "urban" was left out, then it would be considered inappropriate. Consider this, if you received an email that started out saying that 90% of Arizona is white and you got an email stating that someone was in the process of obtaining as many guns as possible to stock their "surburban/suburbia" gun store everywhere in Arizona, what would you think?

I am sorry if I sound ignorant, but how is that comment racist? I was not aware of Detroit's urban makeup, but I am aware of its reputation for violent crimes. What the manager said sounds inappropriate, but not racist
