Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

As a result of poor internet connection that went down multiple times per day I called Century Link to cancel my service on June 18th 2013. I was instead talked into trying out a lower price. For some reason I decided to give it a try. After a couple more month of consistently poor service and spotty-at-best internet service I finally called to cancel, this time for good.

After calling to cancel, mailing back multiple modems, paying off my final months costs and spending more time on the phone I got an invoice from Century Link claiming that I now must pay them a $200 “early termination” fee.

I was never notified regarding an early termination fee as a result of trying out a lower priced service. I was never told that my trying a cheaper priced service I was somehow entering into a contract at the time. I can assure anyone that had the rep made it clear that by accepting a discounted price that I was once again entering into a year long contract, (remember, I initially called to cancel), I would never have been convinced to actually EXTEND my service if Century Link would have been upfront about it. So they just told they would like to give me a cheaper price, I said I would try it and WHAMMO, they claim they have me in a contract!

The problem is a contract must be agreed to by both parties, either verbally or through a signature. Century Link has all but admitted that I never agreed to the contract extension. But as they admitted on the phone sometimes things “aren’t fair”.

After ADMITTING the I might never have agreed to a contract extension (I didn’t) they then said “How can we waive the $200 cancelation fee when other people pay it? This is like saying “Sure, we have some pretty dishonest contract practices going on, and it’s quite possible that many people are not even under contract in the first place, but we still demand $200 from you because we get it from other people too.”

If Century Link is claiming contracts without customers agreeing to them either vocally or by paper, then these contracts are likely not valid contracts. If they are not valid contracts then attempting to force people into paying $200 for “terminating” them could be seen as fraudulent. Century Link might be collecting millions of dollars per year in fraudulent practices and when you call up to point this out you are simply told that sometimes things “Aren't Fair”. This could be flat out fraud although it will be the courts deciding, not me.

I suggest no-one ever choose to use Century Link. They are like a sneaky fox, looking for anyway to get your money, whether it is honest or not. Be advised, they will claim you are under contract if you try to cancel after a price discount, even if they never told you in the first place that it was a contract.

The three employees I spoke to are Kipp in Boise, Omar in Idaho Falls and Bill (I didn't get a location).

I cancelled my services within 30 days, and now charging me Termination fees. Did exactly what they told me, sent in the modem and all. Service in aug 20th, 2013 and cancelled on sept. 19th, 2013. They force my day to cancel on sept. 20th. I got call logs and information to prove that I had cancelled on the 19th.

Charged me 200$ for early termination, but wtf is the 30 days guarantee money back???

They made me pay that (termination fees) on Oct. 14th, but they already sent me to collection and had a collection paper that due on Oct. 7, 2013?

I already paid for my first month bill and wanting it back within my 30 days of cancellation but it turns out, I am on a contract? What about their 30 days guarantee??? They had breach their own terms and condition, and misleading and false information to con people into their junk company.

I cancelled because they promise me 40mbps, but I only get 20. My internet also die in and out so I cancelled it and went to comcast/Xfinity.
