I tried to cash a Texas State Child Support Check at Wal-Mart on 17 April 2010. I had three checks the State sent me. The first two were $75 and $90. They were cashed without a problem. The 3rd check was for $135 and was declined. This check is from the Texas Comptroller... a government check. I called the number on the slip I was given and the automated voice told me that there was NO negative information that was used to make their decision. I simply did not meet their arbitrary profile to cash a STATE CHECK.
I could possibly understand their services if I were trying to cash a personal check as they are meant to protect the companies that use them from fraud, but it's a STATE CHECK! Do they not trust the State of Texas to honor their checks!? This is absolutely ridiculous.
