I think it's about time we put a stop to the actions of the Charles County Sherrifs office and the Maryland State Tropers in Charles County.

We moved to the Bannister area about a year ago. It is a decent sized subdivision that has a rec center, a pool, a church, a 7-11, a Shopping center in walking distance, and schools. Seems like the perfect subdivision, right? Wrong.

It started a few months after we moved here. We have a Ford Focus (Unfortunately), and at this time our radio was broke and could not be turned down nor off. My husband went out for diapers and as he was pulling in are driveway, a County officer blocked him in. He was given a ticket for loud music, petty right? Another officer pulled up, I didn't know what was going on and went out to my garage to see what was going on. My husband was trying to explain when I was verbally abused by the original officer and told to go back in my house. (Technically, I was, since I was in my garage). But I went in anyway. I noticed that there were 3 young male publically drinking, they walked right by the cops and proceeded into the wooded area. Nothing was said to them. We paid the ticket and let this go.

We noticed that there were always alot a cops coming and going by the rec center at all hours of the night, at this point we figured it was because we have a night watch in our area. Then we were told by people that they were doing drug deals. We found that a little hard to believe. Then we noticed that a car would be parked in the median of the road that faces the 7-11, pool, rec center, and school. The person inside would flash his lights to the cop by the rec center, then that cop would flash his lights to a car behind the school, then a car would pull behind the school and a drug deal would go down. Amazing, huh? There cops what are the people here going to do or say?

On many occasions, the neighbors here have had to call the police for many things, like loud music at 1am, etc., drug activity, fights, etc. Only a few times did the cops ever show.

Back in February, my husband was working for a scam company. He refused to go along with their scam, so he was fired. On the day he was fired, 3 other employees pulled up and blocked his truck in. Well, we were trying to get his tools off when we, including myself, were threatened and harassed, so much so that we called the police. It took them over an hour to arrive. While they were here, my husband got a cell phone call from the owner of the company which threatened his life. This happened infront of the cops. We were also harassed and threatened by the employees. The cops didn't do anything. We were told that they could make as many threats as they wanted. We knew that wasn't true. But we were told that this would be filed in a police report. A week ago, I tryed to get a copy of this report to attach to a lawsuit (the company owes him alot of pay), and found out that no report on that day was ever filed, not even something saying that came out. Luckily we have a copy of incoming and outgoing calls made on his cell phone.

About a month ago, our 5 year old twins were graduating from Kindergarten and we went along with our neighbor. Know that we also have a 18 month old (at that time)and our neighbor has a 3 year old. Well, my husband was talking with a guy we know, he asked my husband if he had any money so he could get a soda. My husband handed him a pocket full of change. A woman walked by them and says, "I know what you'll are doing." (Note: this woman was a size 12 trying to wear a size 6 shorts and tank top). Well, she went over to the school to an officer that we know, and told him that my husband was dealing drugs. First and formost, so you can understand why we get so upset, we do not do drugs nor have ever. We don't associate with people that do and take it very personally when some makes a acusation like this. The cop told her that he knew us personally and that he knew we were very against that. Well, she wasn't happy, she went into the school and called the cops. In the mean time, we were taking our children to our cars (which were parked by 7-11), she walked past us again making smart comments, got in her car, and tore off to the school parking lot. She sat on her hood and waited. A cop showed up and was walking through the path to us, and a cop came through the parking lot in another cruiser and blocked both our cars and our neighbors car in. The cop said what she told them. We told the cops whatever, this is just someone trying to start something. Well, the cop searched my husband in front of our neighbor, friends of our from their school, and most importantly; our children and our neighbors. I told them that I would press charges against them for this, it was embarassing and unnessasary. We voiced our unappreciation for this, even told them that when the people in the neighborhood call, they don't show. The cops laugh. Then the one doing the search says that he always comes out when he's called over here. I laughed, this cop has NEVER been over here. We just went home, wondering how we were going to show our faces after someone discrases you like this. All because you helped someone out. Please.

Two days later, my husband goes up to 7-11 for some sodas. Comes back and calls the officer that did the search. It turns out that the man that was with this woman walked into 7-11 as he was leaving and says, "Look it's that f?????? drug dealer." He'd had it. He got the officers recorder and was told him to please call, he never did, even after leaving several messages. To this day, whenever we go somewhere they show up and try to start something. Eventually their going to push it to far and one of us are going to loss our tempers and probally knock them out, then when the cops are called, what are they going to do, they instigated this problem and refuse to do anything about it.

It's amazing over here, you always know what cops will discriminate against blacks and what cops will discriminate against whites, and which cops are just real a?? holes.

To give you an idea on this, my neighbor and I were in a bad car accident back in March. It wasn't her fault but the cops made it to look that way, in fact they have now changed the report 4 times. Funny, huh? Anyway, when a cop finally showed up, my neighbor, who was driving, gave him her id. He started laughing, and replys, "Oh, this should be good, you have a provisional and your 21." He turns to me and says, "Bet your only about 20, huh?" still laughing. I replied, "No, I'm 26." He then says, "Oh, yell, that's a big difference." He makes similar remarks to the man driving the 2nd car in the accident. We tryed to tell the officer the details of the accident, but he kept insisting on talking to the woman who caused it. His original report had her story. I ended up calling his supervisor to find out that he was transfered the day after. He didn't follow protocall either. Because of the extent of the accident, he was to mark the road and take pictures. The only time that was done is when we did it ourselves for the insurance companies.

Just last week, we walked to 7-11 (it was nice out) and saw a state trooper (in daylight) making a drug deal. We watched him hand the guy money, from his cruiser, and take a bag of drugs.

We also had to move out of the way on back roads, because these cops and young kids were racing.

It's amazing how the people that are there to protect you and to set examples for you are the absolute worst criminals around. But who's going to listen, who's going to do anything about these actions, Anyone? What are we supposed to do?

Abuse of power!

Fri, September 27, 2002

This police department doesn't stop with its illegal actions, misuse of power and distruction of city.

Today I was on my way home from LaPlata. I was driving down a back road, the speed limit was 40, I did 40 to 45. Out of nowhere, a officer (#349) drove up on my bumper. For the next few miles, he almosts rear-ends me several times. We get to a yeild to the main highway, where I yielded into the slow lane, so he could pass me. Instead he gets on my bumper and I literally has to swerve on to the shoulder, because the officer clips my back, if I didn't swerve he would have damaged my new car. When he finally passes me (doing at least 75 in a 50), he gives me the finger.

I arrived back home in Waldorf and called the police department. I told them I wanted to file a complaint on an officer for reckless driving and misuse of power. A nice Sgt. gets on the phone and gives me the number to his supervisor, whom is at a meeting and would be back tomorrow. He says the Sgt. will call that he does not like hearing bad news about his officers. We'll see.

I will update this report if and when I hear from him.

Other incidents not cared for by the police department

I wanted to update this report to let you know how this police department continues to do nothing for the communities.

On Labor Day, my neighbor had just played Basketball and went to drop another girl off at her house. Upon leaving she was insulted and threatened by this girls older sister. The older sister is one of the people the police have been called out on several times for tring to start fights with others in the neighborhood. The girl followed my neighbor to a local 7-11 and continued to insult her, she told her she wasn't doing this. A few minutes later, my neighbor came home, when this girl, her mother and aunt pulled up onto our road and screamed absinaties, threats, etc at her. They started walking towards her, she got her keys and proceeded to her car, when the girl punched her and a fight broke out, with the mother and aunt holding my neighbor while they continously beat on her.

In the meantime, I called the local police, a man answered the phone and I told him what had been going on. He starts getting rude with me and says, "Give me your name!" I told him I did not want to do that. He laughs and says, "Well then, maybe I'll let them know to come out, I'll have to think about it." and hung up. I called back, when they had stopped fighting, still no cops. My neighbor was in need of stitches and the 3 had taken off. The lady was real nice, turns out, the man had not told police, they were on their way because someone else had called.

About 30 minutes later, a cop car pulls onto the street. An officer gets out and comes to our door, thinking we were the one's in the fight. I told the cop everything that happened and that this was the same girl we've called on several times for tring stunts like this. He asked about my neighbor, she had to bring the car back to pick up her father and brother from the basketball court and was walking home.

They picked her up and had her ID the 3. Then they give her their information and tell her she has to go the following day and press charges, but she could only press charges on the mother because the other 2 were 17. She had to miss several days of work because her face was so swollen, yet what good was calling the police, when they don't do anything.

She did press charges, there were no arrests, she has to wait for a court date, which could be months. So, please tell me, what good are the police? Do the people who pay their bills, keep to themselves have to continously indure these kind of people with no resolution? Maybe Maryland and Charles County will change their laws and protect the victims and not those dileberately using the system.
