After having a perfect paying record for 8 years on my Visa account with Chase Bank, I was charged a $39.00 LATE FEE for being ONE DAY late!

Oftentimes, I pay off the balance in full and I always pay more than the minimum amount due. I spoke with a SUPERVISOR who would not waive the late fee.

I requested "a day's grace" for this first time "one day late," but she refused.

I'm ticked off that AGAIN the banks in this country get all the breaks! (Like billions of our tax dollars to bail them out when THEY manage their money poorly.)

YOU paid late so YOU owe a late fee. YOU agreed to that when YOU accepted their card. Does it suck that they won't allow you a courtesy waive, YES, it is stealing NO... Call them again and ask to speak to a manager.. they have allowed me courtesy waives in the past.

I also was hit with a $39 fee for being one day late, and had never had a late payment before. I always send out the payment with enough time to get there, but it arrived late this time. The rep. initially refused to remove the fee, and I told her that I didn't see how it was my fault that the post office dropped the ball this month, the payment always got there on time before. She still refused, and I told her that I had payments to the phone and gas company get totally lost in the mail, and that those companies didn't cut my service off the next day because of that, they just tacked it onto next months bill. The rep. then removed the fee, but alas, I lost my intoductory rate. You're absolutely right, Sherry, when you say the banks have every advantage. They can legally steal from us, fail in spite of it, and then hit us for a bailout. If we're ever to get or economy back on track, this is one business model that needs to be drastically changed. -Jeff-

Credit companies DO make money

A credit card company not only charges the buyer who uses a card and does not pay in full each month, but also charges the merchant a percentage of the sale. Credit card companies do make money from a sale on the card even if the buyer pays in full. They just don't make all the money they would like to. How sad.

You were late - it does not matter it was only 1 day or the first time

Your agreement clearly states that you will be charged a late fee. DEAL WITH IT Get used to it - with new regulations going into effect in 2010, they are raising interest rates - lowering limits etc. Its going to get worse before it gets better.

Think about it.....if you pay your bill on time every month and pay it off, are you making them any money? No. They are in business to MAKE MONEY, not to make you happy. You are considered a "non-profitable customer." You aren't doing them any good at all. They aren't going to give you anything. You aren't owed anything for doing what you are supposed to do. I don't understand why so many people think that just because they pay their bill on time, that entitles them to "extra goodies" Why? Ridiculous.
