In 1994 I purchased a Sony 10 disc changer and detachable faceplate deck from the Circuit City in Jacksonville Florida across from the mall on Atlantic Avenue.

I was told the changer was new. It was not.

I discovered this when I was adding the titles of my CD's into the changer's memory that night. After 10 or so it told me the memory was full. Curious, I read the manual and discovered how to recall the names of stored Cd's (it shouldn't have any, it was supposed to be new). I read throught the 100 or so rap CD's listed (another sign I hadn't entered all of mine in a delusional state, since I own no rap on CD) and called Sony to ask what could have caused this besides the obvious.

It was as I suspected: They were entered by another consumer. It was a used part and was last year's model in a new box. No kidding.

I confronted the auto audio manager an he flatly denied anything. He alleged that I was hallucinating or something similar. It was almost a fistfight. I had to leave for a deployment the next day and was gone for 3 months. When I returned, he was no longer there and NO ONE could recall his working there. I got the same run-around from the new person there, who for some reason couldn't remember the name of the guy he replaced, once I dragged the admission out of him that he had indeed NOT been working there for more than three months.

Basically, I was given the brush off. My repeated deployments and months at sea, no phone (I was living on ship) and lack of an internet access prevented me from bringing the full weight of my complaint to bear.

Buyer Beware: I will never shop at Circuit City again.
