Citgo Credit Card Services - Citigroup ripoff phone harassment, outrageous late fee, lost payment. New York New York
After having been a Citgo gas customer and on-time payer for over 10 years, I noticed a recent payment had not been credited, that I'd been charged $1.50 in interest AND A $29.00 LATE FEE!
I spoke with a Citgo credit card representative, who really works for Citigroup, whose deceptive and high-pressure credit practices have been actionable in Federal courts. After I explained that a Mobil credit card payment mailed on the same day had already cleared my bank, as well as checks 10 deep on either side of theirs, he offered to credit the $1.50 interest and $29.00 late fees if I would pay the minimum amount due on the current statement -- which reflected the "past due" amount as well a current charges.
Four hours later, during dinner, we received a phone call. When I answered, I was told BY A MACHINE to wait for the next available agent. Of course, I hung up. I subsequently called the cutomer service number on the back of my card again and told the woman who answered what had happened, stressing my annoyance at being asked to hold BY A MACHINE THAT CALLED *ME*. She said she'd have it immediately noted in the system that I had already made arrangements with the company and the calling-by-machine would not be repeated.
...until 8:49PM. This time, I waited for the human and reported, in no mild terms, to be sure, that the matter was settled, he was out of line to call and that I never wanted to be contacted in this manner again.
As soon as I determine that my local Citgo station accepts Visa, I will cancel this card. There is no reason why Citigroup should make any money from me after they tramped all over a 10-year perfect payer!
