Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
We had a no interest account with Citifinancial Retail Services for furniture purchased from Rooms To Go. We made an additional furniture purchase on 6/22 and the Rooms To Go rep said he was rolling both accounts together. We had made a deposit or spot payment at that time at the the store. We did not receive anything from Citifinancial for two and a half months after purchase.

At this point we were late on payment. I called in to their Customer Service and they said that they had been sending statements and they had no returned mail. To their credit, at this point, they waived the late fee and I thought everything was fine. The next statement came and they had cancelled the no-interest plans and had proceeded to start charging 23.99%. I called their Customer Service dept. and received what I thought was good news that they were going to investigate what happened and get back to me the next day. That the no-interest plans would only be terminated after 3 months of non-payment and that they had received returned mail during the so-called period of non-payment.

Mind you, there wasn't a problem before with our statements arriving and we had kept our account paid and current. Of course, no call was forthcoming the next day, I had to call in again. This time I was told that they had terminated the no-interest plans and that the individual I had talked to previously was mistaken. The issue was all my fault for failure to pay regardless of the statement issue. I, of course, escalated the issue to the next in line supervisor and was told the same thing over. They offered the dispute address and fax number. I can only assume with practices such as these that the dispute department is a PO Box with a direct feed into the trashcan. I feel they deliberately delayed sending statements and laid the blame squarely on me in order to nullify the no-interest agreement and begin to charge me 23.99% interest, which is obviously in their financial interest to do so, as opposed to a no-interest plan.

A cursory call to Rooms To Go resulted in nothing to my benefit with them stating the issue was between Citifinancial and myself. I have asked for the total payoff amount and a payment in full will be summarily on its way to Citifinancial. I refuse to do future business with Citifinancial and Rooms To Go and would adamantly disuade anyone else from doing business with these two companies that participate in shady business practices to rip people off. Just a quick search on the web resulted in numerous hits of individuals getting ripped off in the same manner by these two companies. I only wish I had done the proper research before hand and spared myself the anguish of dealing with these two deceptive companies.

William, I am sorry that you got taken by Citifinancial. I urge you to do a search on them here on Rip-off Report and see how many other consumers have been ripped off. And to Don: At what point do you believe Citifinancial should be held accountable for refusing to send statements in order to taken advantage of consumers?

Why the hostility? "You sorry sucker..." Is this such a common occurrence that I struck a nerve or something? Are you a bitter - failed-in-life Customer Service rep or employee of this company? If they'll screw over a consumer Don - you think they'll screw over a measly peon, such as yourself. I hate stooping to your level Don - it's such a total waste of time, but what the heck. On to my update - dedicated to my new Northern friend Don - who spends his free moments searching the web for complainers like me who're just trying to warn others, so they don't make the same mistake when dealing with this outfit. He needs a life, friends or something.....his bleak existence in Syracuse has made him bitter. You are correct in stating that I am responsible for the debt regardless of receiving a statement. I've had credit cards for about 16 years now. Let's see - I believe the car dealer said I had "Stellar credit" last time I purchased a new car. Poor Don here is probably driving a '91 Geo Prizm..... Sorry, I stooped to Don's insulting level again... Don it's icky and smelly down here on your level. I failed to convey the fact that I signed a CONTRACT at the Rooms-To-Go store that said I owed NO minimum payements - NO interest until '07. NO minimum payment to me means NO payments owed, what do you think Don? No means no means no - zip - zilch - zero, right Don, even in Syracuse? The debt is paid off in full and I'm still debating the value of disputing this issue any further with them. Their practices are STILL deceptive and shady. Take heed folks when dealing with Citifinancial Retail Services...... I guess you have to watch your back and beg them for monthly statements and have an attorney read over the legalese you just signed in what they call a "Terms Agreement". Who would want to willingly do business with a company that does this? I'm starting to hear quite a bit of Consumer Advocate chatter about these deals as well.

After reading this complaint, I have to comment. You sorry sucker.... it's your responsibility to pay your account as agreed.... regardless of whether you receive a bill or NOT. You signed the agreement and can obtain the info on where to mail your payment. If you failed to make your payment because you didn't get a bill in the mail, does that mean you don't have to pay for it??? DUH!!!!! get a life!
