I deposited $260 in my account. Overnight I had a $220 insufficient fund fee. My account showed -$89(which only customer service could see). I showed $45 dollars. After calling them they told me that I had charges pending- debit charges! How do you hold a debit transaction for 2 days???? What kind of company has a $220 insufficient funds fee? This is plain stealing and lying. I've banked with other banks and had to pay overdraft fees to the sum of $25 dollars. Never have I been ripped off like this!

You stated you deposited $260 and your own balance showed $45. If you deposited $260, your own balance should have shown at least $260 until that deposit posted. If you deposit $260, do you know you may not be able to use any of that money until the next business day? You cannot even swipe your card because you will be charged each time you swipe. The charge is based on the time you swiped your card. It no longer waits until the swipe hard posts.

but most if not all major banks debit from largest to smallest. The biggest difference in banks now for posting seems to be some post the day's deposits and credits before the debits, while others post the deposits and credits after the debits. The secret is to keep a register and write down every debit transaction as you do it and the deposits when they are available. If you keep this balance positive you will not have a fee.

They take out the big amounts FIRST, unlike REAL banks would do.

I too have just about supported a bank managers income for a whole month with amount of Overdraft Fees that was charged to me over the course of two years. What happens is this... You have money in the account and the next day you see the charges against your account. THEY TAKE THE BIGGEST ITEM FIRST then go down the line until the smallest one is paid. If the largest amount is taken and causes an overdraft, then the rest of the monies taken will create the same thing. If you look at other Bank's Policies, they show you that they take from the smallest to largest. According to the Bank policies (all of the banks) the Govenrment "allows" the bank to use "any" method of taking funds from your account. So you can be hit hard with heavy overdraft fees, even if most of the transactions COULD HAVE BEEN PAID. Best advice I could offer about Citizens... DON'T GET AN ACCOUNT WITH THEM! Heck... they can't even keep their name. They were Charter One, then before that weren't they Community Bank? Now, aren't they changing their name again...?!
