City Line Auto Sales; Mr. Douglass Howarth; Clas; Clas Cars beware dishonest selling practices Ripoff Greenville New Hampshire
I purchased a vehicle from city line auto in september of 2005 for 9045.00 after speaking several times to the owner Doug Howarth regarding the vehicles condition.(note: Prior to the final purchase Doug was easy to contact and readily available to speak with.) I was informed it was a theft and assured several times that the only problem with the vehicle was the radiator, which would cost approx. 800.00.+ labor. I also knew of some other minor wear and tear issues that were evident.
the mileage on the car was 31k mi.which i was thrilled with. Doug assured me more than once that this was a "great vehicle" for the money. 3,400.00 later after a radiator, new sub frame, washer tank and vac line + labor, the auto body shop called yet again to inform me of another problem. The engine would need to be replaced at an approx. cost of 5,000.00 + labor.
At that point we attempted to contact Doug to see if there was anything we could work out. After a couple of days of phone calls we got a hold of him and were told that he would look into it. A month and some 30+ phone calls and messages later I had no choice but to contact a lawyer. His lawyers said thats the chance you take.
Now it's 9 months later and we finally have a mediation date. I'm told his lawyers will most likely make us fight this all the way to a jury trial and to expect little from the mediation.
kelly blue book has this car valued at 14,000 in Excellent condition. Which mine is not. If i were to pay for the engine ontop of the other costs my total cost for this vehicle would be 17,000.00+ without fixing the small stuff.
Please Beware. Doug truly convinced me that this car was looked at by his people and that i had nothing to worry about. Do not take their word for it. Their word means absolutely nothing. He could care less about you after he gets his money. He'll count on you not wanting to pay for lawyers fee's to fight him. (Addendum: his lawyer offerd us 250.00 at mediation and that's all)
