CITY GOVERNMENT:

FOR PUBLIC CONCERN! We had a beautiful neighborhood up until recently; but, The City of Garland allowed a neighbor to put in a front drive where no front drives should be. All of our drives are in the back with an alley running through! This front drive has chopped-up the architectual design of our neighborhood and it stands out like a sore thumb!

But the worst is to come! The neighbor moved in a monstrosity of a motor home which extends completely to the sidewalk. No one can see around it! We can't even look up and down the street because this AMTRAK train blocks the view! The CITY has a code on their website www.ci.garland.com stating obnoxious, monstrosities and vehicles of such nature shall be removed from the neighbrohood! Garland refuses to acknowledge their OWN code!

They also gave this neighbor a variance to build a monstrosity of a shed over my pool! The neighbor has also put in an attic apartment, a garage apartment and his renters are congesting Peninsula Way! When anyone tries to talk to him about all of the junk and congestion, he states, "THIS IS THE LORD'S MOTOR HOME AND IT WILL STAY! GARLAND GAVE ME A PERMIT!"

I found out recently that THE CITY OF GARLAND APPROVES 80 PER CENT OF THE VARIANCES REQUESTED! OTHER ADJACENT CITIES SUCH AS ROCKWALL, ROWLETT ONLY APPROVE 10 PER CENT OF THE VARIANCES AND THESE HAVE TO BE FOR AN EXTREMELY GOOD REASON. I do not think that moving a motor home into a front yard or neighborhood is a sound or bona'fide reason for giving out a variance. In fact, The City of Garland is at the HEAD of the list when it comes to handing them out! I can surely testify to that. There are two such approvals looming over my property right now! The City advised me to get a lawyer and go to the District Court! Why should I pay a lawyer for their stupidity and corruption? I had a lawyer for the first bout and lost the case regarding the shed looming over my pool!

If someone out their wants to take this on as a contingency case I will be glad to discuss the matter! In the meantime, I just want to let the public know what they are getting into when they decides to move to Garland! HIGH UTILITY BILL! HIGH TAXES! AND NO GARANTEE THAT A NEIGHBORHOOD WILL HOLD ITS VALUE ONCE THE BoA STARTS INDISCRIMINATELY HANDING OUT VARIANCES TO ANY FOOL WHO WANTS TO BUILD A 100' X 100' DOG HOUSE ON TOP OF A HOME!

CAN'T WE REPLACE THESE JOKERS ON THE BoA! WHY DOESN'T THE NEIGHBORHOOD HAVE A SAY WHEN IT COMES TO DEVALUATING OUR HOMES!PLEASE SOMEONE COME TO OUR RESCUE. THE PEOPLE ON PENINSULA WAY WHAT TO KEEP THEIR PROPERTY VALUE!

City of Garland is CORRUPT!!!!

Hi there.

There is something fishy going on in Garland.  I think it's the city councilmen.

85% of Texas has deregulated, and you can choose any provider you want for electricity.

EXCEPT GARLAND!!!

Garland has not allowed competition to come in, and they are very rude at the utility company.  First, my neighbors say that they have the highest utility rate in the nation because they have NOT deregulated.. Second, they make you file a "rental" property if you have anyone living in your home that is NOT the owner... (even though the owner is living there)..

They refused to give me service because my nickname was not on my birth certificate.. and there was no other ID even though I showed them college transcripts, credit reports, bank statements, old utility bills, car titles, credit cards, student ID's, etc..

It's a nightmare trying to deal with them, too.  I'm either moving.. selling the house that I just bought.. or waiting on the name change to take effect.

The junk vehicle (motor home) with no registration tags, no inspection stickers which was considered inoperable was RED TAGGED and the city came out towed it off and impounded it! What a relief. We can see the entire block again and it is beautiful! Everyone says they are really happy and elated that it is now out of here. Peninsula Way can now have some of its beauty back. Thank you Rip-Off report. You really helped!

On April 28th,2003 the obnoxious motor home is to get out of here! Why! Because it does not have any updated tags, i.e. registration or inspection stickers and because the neighbor could not prove this junk heap would run. Mr. Teel from the City of Garland Code Inspection came out to inspect the motor home. The neighbor would not and could not move it. I said the transmission is out! I hope Mr. Teel sticks to his word, but I am sure the neighbor will ask for extension after extension to keep it here. I really believe the Rip-off Report helped to get the ball rolling to get this junk R.V. out of here. I encourage anyone who has a complaint to report it to the Rip-Off Website. This website can really get some action! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

American Association of Code Enforcement. Is it really all that professional?

This website discusses code enforcement, i.e. What can they do about herbal life putting holes in telephone poles. They discuss pavement issues such as how much of a front yard can one pave. I replied to the website. I said, If anyone wanted to pave their entire lawn, they should move to Garland, Texas. There are no restrictions here! I also told them one can put brick skirting around a motor home and disregard safety because safety issues are not enforced in Garland, Texas. I received a letter from Ms.Sherri Johnston and Rick Wolf stating I should not discuss Garland, Texas and their code enforcement on their national professional site! I ask, "What is this website about anyway?" They can discuss their concerns about putting herbal life and garage sales signs on telephone poles and complain that the holes will hurt the poles. But, when it comes to a child getting injured from brick skirting butting up against the City sidewalk, that is a "No! No!" Let's really get down to all this professionalism! Injury to a child in a bicycle fall is to me far more serious than any hole in a telephone pole!

CORRUPT COUNCILMEN IN GARLAND THREATEN CITIZENS WHO WANT BEAUTIFICATION AND SAFETY!

Can you believe Councilman Randall Dunning, who was appointed to a Committee to research RV code compliance, got up before Mayor Day and the rest of the City Council and flatty told untruths! He stated "The City of Plano does not have ordinances regarding RVS so why should Garland!" Just for the record, the meetings are all video taped. I called the Mayor of Plano and found that Plano does, indeed, have a very strict policies regarding motor homes and RVs. None in the front and the limit is 22 feet! This Councilman has an RV parked in his yard! He has deliberately gone out of his way to stir up a lot of trouble! I received a terrible letter from him insulting me because we want and need an ordinance to keep RVs out of the front area in our neighborhood! The last workshop on January 6th was a simply appauling! The Council discussed Dart buses and littering around bus stops located in residential areas! They were upset over a park bench that has been overturned for months! But,the really important issues to the citizens were poohpoohed! The 37 foot motor home which is a death trap to a kid on a bicycle, which sticks out like a sore thumb, was referred to by Mr. Dunning as, "A little spat between neighbors!" We might infringe upon the rights of the RV pack and the homeowner who wants to bring one of these monstrosities in here! The RV Pack, as they boast and beat their chests, gives so much to charity in the form of donations! That is all we heard at the December City Council meeting! I say, charity begins at home and all the donations in the world are not as important as preventing another injury to a child! The guy with the RV! He's bawling to everybody, trying to get sympathy. Any other party would have had more consideration for the neighbors! And they don't even go to church! What about the rest of us? We are the one losing money on our devaluated property! With job security being so unstable, I would think people would wise up and protect their investments! A home may truly be the only retirement money they will ever have! What really irks me is this! The motor home has not been moved in over a year. It just sits here and is rusting out! The neighbor doesn't even have updated inspection or tags! And, the City expects the whole neighborhood to put up with this! If a kid gets hurt, so beit! That is really a great pledge to the citizens from Garland City Council, isn't it!
