If you have not heard anything back from the LA City Parking Violations Bureau, do not assume you have "won" or been "released" from liability. If they have not verified IN WRITING that you are absolved of the ticket/fines, at least send them a letter sent USPS certified with RETURN RECEIPT so that if they go back later and say you had still owed them (10 years from now - dinging your credit, etc.) you have the verification that you had sent them a letter. This will help you in court when judges request proof that you sent correspondence in an attempt to clarify anything with the Bureau. It also forces them to respond to your correspondence to them, rather than putting it in the trash and pretending they never received it.

I am sick of this type of stuff. It seems we the public are forced to sue these fraudulent companies in order to get them to stop! Sad but very true. This must stop! Any Attorney out there want to take on the City of LA Parking Bureau in a class action law suit let me know. I have had it with them! Can you imagine how much $ they have made by doing this? There are far more people out there that they did this to that did not report it here. It is time to say enough is enough and fight back!

I just received a Notice from the Los Angeles Parking Violations Bureau dated July 10, 2008 in California. I was notified that on May 20, 2005 I was in Los Angeles on May 20, 2005 at 8:03a.m. Parked on 400 Blk W. 3rd Street. I was shocked as I have never been to L.A. ever. As I read the Notice the fine was $76.00. I gave them a call and spoke to a girl who stated that I just did not remember being in L.A. on this date and time. I asked why I have never received this notice in the past 3 years? She said that they have been mailing them to me. The violation was for having expired tags. Which is not true as my tags were always current. I can't prove point blank that I was never in L.A. I know I was at work on that day but how do you prove it? I can prove that my tags were never expired. I asked for a copy of this original ticket and copies of all these supposed notices they have sent me. This is difficult as I am on a Sebaticle of 1-year out of the country. On 8/6/08 I received Letter #130 telling me they had reviewed my citation and it was determined that the information on the citation coincides with that provided by the DMV and is therefor valid. Within 21-days of 7/30/08 request a hearing in writing or I forfeit my right to dispute this. I am also now required to pay the amount of $76.00 while I request a formal hearing by mail. I had to get the forms online at the DMV and fill them out and pay $5.00 plus scan this and send it off. I doubt I will receive copies of my Registration in time to fight this bogus ticket. I know that they are in violation of CVC 40206.5 (a). As they are required within 15-days to provide me a copy of the original ticket either by writing or verbally. Of course I wrote the persons name down that i spoke to as she did give me fax number. So I wrote a formal written request to obtain a copy of this ticket and all these supposed notices that were sent to me. When I went to fax it off online of course, it came back stating this fax number was not valid. What a nightmare! How can Los Angeles Parking Bureau 3-years later claim you have an unpaid ticket on a vehicle without providing you at the very least a copy of the original ticket and Notice? I wanted to compare the color of the car and vin # as I know for a fact this is a mistake. I also want proof that they had sent me notice after notice as I always kept my address current with the DMV in order to pay my Registration on time. I sold this vehicle a year ago and do not readily have copies of my Registration. I read off the DMV website that if the Agent received Notices returned they must drop this, unless i read this wrong. So if I can't provide proof within less than 21-days now how on earth can I fight this without ruining my Sebaticle and flying all the way back to California to protect my credit? Who pays for my cost for their ridiculous error? The DMV Blatenly knows my Registration was never expired! What a scam and a serious Rip Off I think. We are not the only ones they do this to.......

I agree with Richard that your trust in the PVB may be naive. I assume that the detailed info on the tickets (which you rec'd with their Letter #209)and which described the vehicle ticketed, as to make model and color of vehicle, did not match the description of your vehicle that was in the repair shop at the time the alleged tickets were issued. If that info DOES match the description of your vehicle, something is amiss.

First... dont assume! You are dealing with a bunch of donkeys that have no sense or remorse (remember, all they want is $$$$$$). You better call Pat or Max to find out if you got away with murder or not. I have been trying for months to clear mine up. And i am still fighting. You, just a few hours. You dont know how lucky you are. But if in fact you did win.... GREAT! Good for you! Thats awesome! I applaud you. But if your not sure..... you better find out otherwise you will be in for a big surprise when you go to renew your registration.

Thank you for your concerns. Upon request, I did receive a computer generated copy of the tickets which showed correct license plate number (except with no VIN). But for some unexplained reason the Parking violation bureau decided the citations were invalid and dismissed them. Although we also received another notice from the bureau advising us to pay the fines. We sent in both notices to the Bureau for clarification. To-date we have heard nothing from them. I assume we have been released and won the war. Thank you for all your advise. I spent more than 4 hours handling this matter, gathering evidence, submitting sworn declarations etc, Although it would have been cheaper to pay the fine of $96....it is a matter of principle, and sometimes it is costly. God Bless all of you who contributed precious input.

Cloris, by now you must have received the copy of the tickets (attached to the PVB "Letter #209)so there must have been an identifiable mistake that you could determine from that information. The erroneous "expired registration tag" ticket was the clue (I think) that the parking "officer" who's supposedly on record as having written the tickets must have wrongly copied the lic. plate number.....maybe off by one digit or something. What were you able to learn from the info you were later sent?...since, as you described the matter, with your car wrecked and undrivable and in the repair shop, it was a physical impossibility that it rec'd 2 parking tickets that far away.

Oh boy, Cloris. The info about the citation being issued 20 miles away must have been from info you got from them over the phone. The PVB had BETTER send you a copy of each ticket that THEY allege were issued to YOUR vehcile. After all, it is THEY that are demanding dollars from YOU. If you don't get it within a week of your request, I'd call, and call and call. Anyway, that will be very telling. IF the ticketer actually issued those 2 tickets, could be he/she made an "honest" mistake in copying the plate number of another car. Another news media person to contact is Joel Grover, an investigative reporter with NBC-4 News there in L.A. You can get transcripts of his investigative reports that aired on 2/19 and 2/20/04 --- all about the LA parking enforcement scam of totally bleached out no-parking signs throughout the city, numbering over 1000, and the LA enforcement bureau knowledgeable about it and ticketers issuing tickets under the "invisible" signs, etc. One enforcer said many have been like that for 10 years. Good luck. DO DEMAND FROM THE PVB A COPY OF EACH TICKET.

I have been in touch with Dennic Mcarthy at the Daily News. Maybe if he hears from several of us, they will assist us. (the Daily News loves to bash Los Angeles Government.)

Thank you Richard and Marilyn for your input. The car was in the body shop for 2 months, apparently a long time, mostly waiting for adjusters to inspect and parts. the body shop belongs to a good friend of mine so there is no reason to doubt them. Most importantly, the vehicle was not really driveable since the right front tire and rim were heavily damaged so as the entire right side. Driving the car would create a strong burning smell "metal scratching rubber" and any braking or driving over 10 miles per hour, would generate a metal clashing sound and metal clashing the road service.... therefore to get a double parking ticket at a location some 20 miles away is hard to believe. Yes, I am still fighting the system. I took your advise and requested the actual copy of tickets... not sure if I would ever get it! I certainly hope some TV investigative reporters will look into this. I am certainly not the only victim. God Bless,
Richard

You know Marilynn... Who Knows? The possibilities are nearly endless. Yes, did the repair facility double park the vehicle in question? I am in the automotive industry and the things that go on out there are questionable. Especially with alot of these body shops. But two months for a repair is an EXTREMELY long time ( i would not have taken my car there). Average is 7-14 days. The body shop may have doubled parked it on accident without knowing what happenend. If they did, why did they not say something to the owner? there should have been a ticket on the window... Well, i guess we will never know. I am curious to who the body shop was (as i deal with many of them) and can may be able to put a mental picture together ( i know the streets out here very well). For Cloris, i wish i had some more detailed information about your ordeal. Likewise, since they were the first tags, it seems to me that this is a brand new car. Another ACS Screw Up? One thing i dont understand is when the DMV issues plates to a brand new vehicle... the stickers DO NOT have the serial numbers on them as they do when you get your plate RE-NEWED. You know how people like to peel them off and put them on their cars? (thats another story). Cloris, IF IN FACT THIS IS NOT YOUR CITATION... PUT UP THE FIGHT! L A IS A SCREWED UP TOWN. Now i see why you are in Cerritos. I have an ordeal too where my plates were mailed to someone else who got a ticket, and i have no intentions to pay a single dime to L A for the DMV's mistake. Of course i would ask them to pay since it is their mistake, but i can only imagine how loud they would laugh. GOOD LUCK! GO! FIGHT! WIN!

I too feel for Cloris and wonder if she demanded copies of the tickets...containing ALL the information one of those ticketers is required by law to write, e.g., make, model and color of vehicle, VIN #, address, license plate (of course) etc., etc. Could be, as Richard suggests, that DMV issued your plates to another vehicle owner, that the plates on YOUR vehicle don't match your registration. Then too, it could very well be just plain fraud. Did Cloris actually pay what the racketeers there were demanding...as if her vehicle received ANY parking citation or was "double parked" when it was in the repair shop? Los Angeles is out of control in every aspect of parking enforcement. Sheer madness.

Did you check the license plate numbers against your DMV registration to be sure that it matches the plate number you recieved from them to the number that is printed on the registration? I have a sim problem. But i recieved the wrong plates in the mail and found out my original plates went to someone else. My case is on hold at this time. But check it out....
