After seeing an ad in Home Magazine, we contracted Coastal Improvement Corp. to get a quote to remodel the kitchen. I called this company because I saw an ad that stated that they made kitchen cabinets at low prices as if they were the manufacturer. Little did I know they are contractors and I was convinced by Mr. Bruce Imhoff’s sales pitch that I would get the highest quality cabinets and a contractor who would oversee the complete project. He was so good that he fooled me into thinking I was getting a great price without getting other estimates “BEWARE”. Off coarse, in order to get this fabulous price, I needed to sign the contract then and there. What I received was a contractor who picked up the payments and didn’t pass by to supervise the project. He may have passed by once or twice at our request to discuss problems with the job. As per the product, as of today they can’t show me proof that what I paid for was what they ordered and what I actually got. The purchase requisition is lost and apparently they cannot get a copy from the manufacturer. What they do admit to is that the sample I chose was old and that the product I got was different than what I saw as a sample. I ordered satin-finish cabinets and what they look like is a flat finish. I have contracted the salesperson, Mr. Imhoff, as well as the owner, Mr. Blank on numerous occasions, and have been waiting for over a year for them to furnish me with the proof that I was promised, evidence of the sales order.

Hello there Mr/Mrs. Anonymous! First let me apologize for all of our mistakes and any type of misunderstandings you have experienced from our company. From what I gathered so far, you entered into a lump sum contract with Mr. Imhoff. That basically is where he comes up with a set price for materials/labor/profit and you both agree and sign. Now if that is incorrect please let me know. If that is not the contract that Mr Imhoff and your party entered into to, then it must be a Cost Plus contract and that would require Mr. Imhoff & our company to provide invoices and reciepts plus our charge for Over&Profit to get paid. That type of contract would require us the reciepts you are talking about.

I also see that you started another complaint with the same exact starting verbage of our only other complaint that was about your used faucet that was accidentially thrown away. I really do want to apologize for that, and hope you can understand in construction mistakes do happen, most go unnoticed and are fixed without the client ever knowing. A perfect way of seeing that perspective is look at our road construction and road improvemnets all around the state. There is one by me that was supposed to be finished almost two (2) years ago and I still have to deal with it every day.  I understand that you wanted to donate that faucet and that is a very admirable trait to have and we respect that 1000%.

So far from what I gathered is, instead of expressing your compaints in one part, you make one complaint in which we took responsilbility for and was more than happy to buy a brand new faucet for you to donate to Habitat for Humanity. Then three (3) years later you file another complaint about wanting to see reciepts? If you did not sign a Cost Plus contract with us, I must apologize and let you know that we will not supply those records to you due to the fact we might have done a very common mistake... We are human after all and we might have thrown those away on accident. Our accountants throw all kinds of fits about that, but I will be the one who steps up and says that it does happen and if theres a chance of finding it, we will try.

Now I have come up with a solution for this:

1) If you are unhappy about the way the finish is, let me explain the different types of finishes. First is Stain, Stain is used to change the natural color of wood to either bring out the natural beauty of the particular wood or charge the color to resemble a totally different species. Stain is what we consider the base coat in the industry. Next is the topcoats. First is Shellac, Shellac is a natural product that acts as a protective coat and also gives the bright glossy finish you see on alot of non-traffic used type of furniture, an example is that nice China cabinet thats been in the family for generations. Next would be Varnish. Varnish is used as a top coat or just a finish coat. Its used a lot in outdoor projects like house trims, boat decks, etc. Next finish is Lacquer. Laquer is an extremely intense glossy finish used on Asian inspired and/or modern furniture. The last one I am going to discuss is Polyurethane. This is one of the most widely used in interiors of homes. It is used as the top coat after the stain. In the woodworking/construction industry it is common knowledge that Polyurethane comes in three (3) finishes. They are: Gloss, Semi-Gloss and Satin. In some circles and locations Satin is confused for and even callled FLAT due to the similar look. If your cabinets have a slighty dull look with a low amount of sheen (low amount of light reflection) then that is Satin. Most common paint finishes paint wise are almost the same. They have Gloss, Semi-Gloss, Satin and Flat. Out of all paint finishes, Flat has zero sheen and looks almost dull/rough/chalky. Most of all about Flat paint is that it is primarily used to paint ceilings of houses. A simple resolution for that is to have our customer representive of the cabinet make meet us onsite to verify the finish.

Resolution: Please contact me and I will personally sit down and go over every single issue you have and make sure to not only come up with a solution but to also resolve them as well.

P.S. Mr/Mrs Anonymous did you recieve any other bids before or after we served you on your project? I was wondering if there was an issue price wise as well.

Best Regards
