In 2007 I leased a washer and dryer from Conn's. I added the protection plan and a stand as well. The total price was over $1700. In April of 2008 I went to the store and paid the washer and dryer off. I asked to lease a vacuum as well, hoping to continue and build my credit. The sales rep. added the vacuum along with the unpaid balance of the washer and dryer to a new contract & then did my payment which was to clear the old contract. I was told this would be fixed and signed the contract anyway. I was then told I needed to come back to the store to do a new contract because he did it wrong. I could not come back. The same month the sales associate told me the policy for Conn's is that if a customer cannot come back in to fix a contract that they did wrong, the associate had to pay for the balance which was about $140. He told me the balance was taken care of and I no longer owed Conn's due to this error. They also reported to all three credit agencies that I paid the balance of the new contract ($2444) in full and nothing was due. I have the credit report to prove this. Almost two years later (March of 2010) they started sending me bills saying I owed $1000. I called and called and never got anywhere. Finally they did say I only owed the price of the vacuum cleaner (about $140). This was after over a month of calling and complaining. I told them what I was told & that they even reported it as paid in full. They said this was not the policy and placed negative credit on my credit report. They never contacted or anything until 2 years later & now they are ripping me off!!! I told them I would take them to court for placing negative credit on my report even though they originally reported it as paid in full. They told me they would worry about that when it actually happens & they don't care if they made a mistake or not. They have now lost me as a customer forever & I plan to try and file suit to get this removed.

Still not resolved

I have called customer service for over a month and a half, but still no answers and this is not resolved. Your company is dot doing anything but making excuses for your company's error. I have talked to at least 8 different people including senior supervisors and their managers with no luck. Your company does not care at all & you insist that I must pay or you will continue to report negative credit. I have heard excuses as to why I owe the debt and why I never received a phone call or letter asking for payment in two years and it made no sense. I was told "when you paid off the washer and dryer the same day as adding the vacuum, it made our system think payments were made for a two year period." I informed this was bull and made no sense at all. Even if it was true, how did I get charged $800 in interest charges over a two year period of "payments shown made"? Wouldn't this mean that I would have never been charged interest if your system thinks the payment was to cover the next two years? Either way, as of now nothing has been resolved.
