Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I was contacted by a collection agency in August, 2014 who stated that they were taking me to court unless I set up payment arrangement for past due amount of $900.00, due to Conns. When I was first became aware of an unpaid debt to Conns it was late January/ early February 2013.  At the original time of contact, I was in the hospital for emergency surgery.  My second contact with them was literally the first day I was released from the hospital, at that time I explained to the caller that I was unable to handle things at the moment at which time she began to very rudely speak to me along with an additional person who was on the line, they eventually said that they would call back. Being ill and recovering I forget about the phone call, as I had surgery again one month later in March, 2013.

Fast forward, August 2014 United Check Recovery Bureau contacted me indicating that on the end of the business day, a Friday, that they were acting on the behalf of Conns and would be filing on me for theft... I was astounded and I had to think back on the accounts leading up to this phone call, so I told the gentleman I was going to have to speak to an attorney friend of mine regarding the situation at which he responded if you do that, then we will pursue the lawsuit.  After hanging up, I called my friend who suggested that I contact Conns to verify my prior coversation, to which I did,

I spoke to an individual who told me that they could no longer speak to me, as my account had been sold to United Check Recovery Bureau and gave me the number. I called my friend and told him the conversation that I had with Conns, he advised me to called United and set up a payment plan which I did, to pay off the debt, which by the was was more than the item originally purchased.  I contact the company and spoke to the gentleman who originally spoke to me, and explained that I live on fixed income, and could not just willingly pay a debt that (in that amount) I was unsure of, he asked if I spoken to an attorney and I replied "yes" and told him that he suggested that I set up a payment plan to quickly pay off the debt. Needless to say, I made three monthly payments of $ 223.00 to United Check Recovery Bureau, on 8/15/14, 9/10/14, and 10/10/14 to clear my debt, because this is WHO Conns forwarded me to.

Fast forward one year later, I have been contacted by yet another recovery bureau (Corner Stone) for CONNS informing me I owe $ 527.00 for the same account  ON A FRIDAY again, and will be filed on Monday morning if action is not taken. Needless to say Conns will never go out of business if they are STILL collecting on debts that have been paid over and over. By the way I have discovered that the original debt was less than $200.00 and the payment was overlooked by my sister as I helped her purchase the cheapest refrigerator that they had. I own up to the debt not being paid, but why didn't Conns first contact me with this was thirty days over due (never received notification).

Buyers beware when dealing with a corporation of CONS such as Conns who 1) Employee less than repectful collection agents; 2) Deal with fraudulent collection bureaus; and 3) have the new collecting bureau call and tell you that you may be able to recover $7.00... Thieves ALL of THEM!
