If this collection agency is calling you 3 or more times a day send a cease communications letter certified but keep a copy to your self. A collection agency called me a few years back every 15-20 minuites so I send that agency 1 of those letters certified and never heard from them again.

Get a life Steve. As much as we all appreciate your misanthropic rebuttals to every other post on this site it's beginning to get a little tiresome.

It was YOU that jumped in and gave "advice" that was TOTALLY WRONG. I corrected you.
It was the OP who communicated in a manner that demonstrated ILLITERACY. Usually people who are illiterate, have trouble understanding legal contracts.
I'm the idiot? Really?
I know how to communicate in an educated manner. I do not tolerate those who soaked up 13 years of taxpayer funding to go to school, and yet remain illiterate. THAT is the "rip off" here.
I am not illiterate. I know collections law.I know that the FDCPA under FTC jurisdiction applies to THIRD PARTY debt collectors.YOU did not know this, and gave misinformed, inaccurate, "advice.
YOU stated that it is illegal for a collector to come to a person's house. Once again, YOU were WRONG. There is no such law.
It appears that YOU are the IDIOT here. Not me.And, I'm not "compensating" for anything. Guaranteed.

and the people on here that says stuff like I am an idiot. that is besides the ppoint. they are the ones who have alot of money and are probably attornies that never have to worry about debt, cause they have alot of money with 2 cars.
I myself have to walk everywhere cannot afford a car, I ma able to make ends meet but just wondering why and what i can do abut the creditors ruining my life bu=y comming to my home and harrasing me. thats all I wanted to know and stuff. i will let this run awhile. but I am starting to wonder if i have any rites at all based on what people are saying here as attornys.

While I stand corrected about what I said in regards to the FTC and I cannot quote any laws on the issue. I do have to say that your a rude individual who must think his crap doesn't stink. So the only idoit on here is you! To judge a person because they can't spell makes you an even bigger idiot. People like you have NO business being allowed to make comments because you only degrade and name call....I bet your some small person who has to call names in order to compensate for your totally smallness....lol!!

As I said the Fair Credit Act only pertains to third party debt collectors not inhouse collectors.
If you bought items on credit and cannot pay for them give them back if the are tangible assets such as appliances, furniture etc etc.

"Tsenabar" is misinformed.
The FTC rules on debt collections you speak of actually only apply to third party debt collectors.
Since the OP did not name a collection agency, it would be assumed that these are "in house" collectors, especially since they made a house call.
And, there is no law against a collector coming to someones house. None at all.
I challenge you to quote said law here.
You are an idiot.

While I do agree you should have communicated with the creditor about your situation they do not have the right to come to your home and harrasse you. Go to the Federal Trade Commissions website and read the laws pertaining to debt collections. Once you tell them to stop calling they have to stop, and if they come back to your home call the police and file a report of harrassment. There are laws to protect you and your family from debt collectors but you have to seek them out and make sure that you notify the right authorities.
Oh yeah...one more thing...if people on here don't have constructive information then don't listen to them. Just remember you do have rights!!

How is this a rip off?
You purchased some merchandise from this retailer, they extended you credit, and you did not pay. Now, they put you in collections and that is a rip off?
Sending collectors to your home is not illegal. Maybe unusual, but not illegal.
Lose that sense of entitlement that you have. You are entitled to NOTHING.
The only rip off here is on the taxpayers as they paid to send you to school for 13 years and obviously did not get a return on that investment as you are illiterate.
Literacy = credibility.

I have no clue what your rip off is - Please learn to spell before you submit a report. The Fair Credit Act only pertains to third party debt collectors.
Many people have fallen on hard times (including me) - you should have communicated with them about your situation and made a payment plan with them to fit your budget.
