Here's the text of an e-mail I attempted to send them that's pretty self explanatory--except the e-mail link on their site goes to an invalid address. If you wonder why this violates numerous federal laws, visit www.fcc.gov and go to consumer telemarketing laws (or visit privatecitizen.com)...

I have been called by telemarketers for Consolidated Media Services twice within the last 2 weeks--the most recent being about 8:25 AM this morning.

In these calls, you apparently violated several FCC rules and federal law.

This morning, a person identify herself as Vanessa, "calling long distance from Atlanta, Georgia." called and launched into her sales pitch. After about 30 seconds, I asked for Vanessa's full name, a call back number for Consolidated Media Services, and an address for Consolidated Media Services. She refused to give any of those to me. I pointed out these were required by FCC rule, and she still refused to give me this information.

I then asked for a supervisor. I spoke with someone identifying themselves as Willie Smith. I demanded that this supervisor give a call back number for Consolidated Media Services, an address for Consolidated Media Services, that I be placed on the do-not-call list, and that I be supplied with a copy of the written do-not-call policy (all of which are required by federal law). The supervisor refused all of these requests.

I now demand for a fourth time that you supply me with a call-back number, your address, that I be placed on your do-not-call list, and that you provide me with a written copy of your do-not-call policy.

It is a pain, but it (usually) works. The agony described is not an unusual tactic for these mass magazine companies. I believe Publisher's Clearinghouse does something similar. Although they tend to send their "information" in the mail. But please tell him to try dealing with the individual magazines, he may be able to recoup some of his loss. Thank you, MN
