I was contacted by this company at my DORM ROOM at UMBC

They contacted me under the rouse of a sweepstakes and offered me a trial magazine subscription for $12.00 and a free watch.

Five minutes after they contacted me they charged my VISA $58.64. What! I have online banking, so I at least knew immediately about the charge.

They flat out lied to me and said that I would not be charged until receiving an information packet in the mail to select trial magazine subscriptions. They are fradulent telemarketers and con-artists!

I sent ANGRY e-mails to: [email protected]

[email protected] (compliance dept.) and contacted their customer service hotline: 18003672921

They could not help me yet as my order is only 12 hours old, yes they called my DORM ROOM at 9:00 PM last night, they said a represntative will contact me within 24 Hours to confirm my account and at that time I will have ten days to cancel the order.

I will post an update to this as soon as I know more

They actually called me back and left a message!

Well, they contacted me the very next day about 19 Hrs after the order. After calling customer service multiple times and professing that I was highly interested in canceling the order. I finally got that third call as a message, "Be sure to ask about your free gift and call us back at 1-800-732-6839". I called them back and they said that my order was already cancelled and that I would receive a certificate of cancelation in 3 to 5 days. So balking about canceling an order can actually work, I hope. My fingers are crossed and I'm hoping to see that charge holding on my VISA disappear. Bye the way, their reps each told me that when ordering you 1st talk to an employee (Who tries to become your friend and offers you free stuff), 2nd you speak to their supervisor (who asked me if I understood the order and said 4 to 8 months really quickly rather than 48 months, which is what they will try to lock you into) (3$ week x 4 weeks in a month x 12 months in a year x 4 years = $576) I also think that they were trying to bill me $58.64 every four months for the next four years = $703.68. Oh yeah, and 3rd they contact you 24-48Hrs later and ask you if you understood the agreement, at which point you have ten days to cancel the order. I talked to my roommate about this and they said that they also contacted him at his home address, rather than here at the dorm. Interestingly enough, when they asked him about his credit card and he replied that he did not have one, they hung up on him. Even more interesting is that the UMBC student directory was just published and inside it under my name, the number for our dorm room is listed and under his name his home phone number is listed. It appears to me that UMBC sold the information in the student directory to companies like the dirty rotten cheats at Media Outsourcing! That makes me kinda angry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just hope no other freshmen, like myself were taken advantage of. Maybe it would make a good article for our college newspaper.
