I noticed on my caller ID that there was the same phone number 1-866-656-8186 calling me for over a week. When I picked up the phone, a man named "Richard Moore" ID#:2277 with an Indian accent explained to me how CRN was doing a promotion called "Mega Movie Club". He proceeded to tell me that I would get a $500 shopping spree and 4 movie tickets for participating in the program. All I needed to do was read the literature. If I didn't like it, I could cancel the program within 10 days or get charged $19.95 thereafter.

When I spoke to his supervisor, she explained that there was a $4.95 processing fee and my account number would not be charged until the 10-day grace period was up. So, while we were talking I picked up my cell phone to call the number "Richard Moore" gave me but the supervisor said the last two digits were different. I could not get through so I hung up. Then I asked if I could go to the office located on Topanga Canyon in Canoga Park, Ca.

At first the supervisor said 'yes', but when I asked her for the cross-street, she kept repeating the address.

So, I tried to rephrase my question. She tells me that the office is located next to a zoo and theme park. I inform her that I work close by and am aware that no such zoo or theme park exists. Suddenly, she becomes argumentative and informs me that she does not want to give me the "package" because I do not trust them because I want to come to the office. Really annoyed at this point, I explain to her that a legititmate business would not talk to consumers this way and informed her that I would be reporting her for their scam.

Afterwards, I did a mapquest of the address given; it was the Topanga Canyon Mall.

Fortunately, I am one not to give my information over the phone and am concerned for the older people out there who may not see this incident immediately as a scam.

I was able to pick up several clues: "Richard Moore" and his Indian accent, being told that they are calling within California when the office is 5 miles away from where I live, $500 shopping spree, inconsistency in customer service numbers, and of course, the supervisor telling me that I can no longer get the package because I don't trust them.
